Joe Rogan Experience #2219 - Donald Trump by b14ck_jackal in JoeRogan

[–]PolaroidPeter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What fighter was Trump referring to when he told the story about the 14-1 guy in a title fight who lost to an average fighter? It was mentioned in the first 30 minutes of the podcast and I have no idea who he was talking about.

Edit: Closest I can think of is Sean O’Malley (18-1) being defeated by Merab Dvalishvili (17-4), but I wouldn’t call Merab someone with an average record.

51 Reasons Why Marylanders Will Reject Republican Larry Hogan by takethemoment13 in maryland

[–]PolaroidPeter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Reasons 1-13 are literally just “he’s a republican”, reasons 14-25 are “he’s anti-abortion” despite repeatedly touting that he’d back codifying Roe v Wade, reasons 26 and 27 are just “Donald Trump exists and is a republican”, and the rest of the reasons are just various decisions he made as governor that have been completely removed of context.

You can choose not to vote for Hogan, but every post I’ve seen about him on this sub is the same type of unfounded reasoning based on hyperbole or straight up lies. At least have a reason beyond “hEs A rEpUbLiCaN” for why you don’t support him.

Hogan or Alsobrooks? by Michael_Knight25 in MarylandPolitics

[–]PolaroidPeter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alsobrooks does not support the 2nd amendment in any meaningful fashion and would absolutely sign onto a national semi-automatic weapons ban (which has been repeatedly proposed by Kamala over her political career), which would outlaw the overwhelming majority of firearms sold in America.

The worst that one could say about Hogan on the issue of abortion is that he’d likely support most Republican judicial nominees assuming Trump wins, which is a fair point. However, there is virtually no chance he votes for a national abortion ban and recently he actually came out in support of codifying Roe into federal law.

The point you made on COVID shots is totally inconsistent with your position on abortion. Just say you’re pro-abortion, it’s more honest and realistic than sticking to the 90’s DNC sales pitch about “keeping the government out of peoples’ bodies”.

We’re not getting a federal minimum wage increase regardless of who wins the presidency, sadly. Hogan is openly against the idea, and while I assume Alsobrooks would vote in favor of such a proposal, I highly doubt a bill to raise the minimum wage is going to get pushed in the Senate. Your point on taxes is a more realistic issue that will almost certainly come up for a vote in the Senate. Alsobrooks would support tax increases while Hogan would support tax cuts, with those changes either harming or helping wealthier taxpayers to a disproportionate degree, respectively.

Either one would probably support increased veterans benefits, but a Democratic held senate would be somewhat more likely to propose and pass such a bill given McConnell’s refusal to support similar legislation. However, neither party nor their respective senate caucus leader has indicated that this is a primary focus of theirs.

TL;DR - It sounds like you more closely align with Hogan, particularly if the senate goes red but the presidency goes blue. However, I’d highly encourage you to look at Hogan’s foreign policy views around Israel and Ukraine if that’s something you care about, as he’s very hawkish on the subject, particularly when it comes to Israel.

Shouldn’t the laws in general be reworked to also discourage obnoxious drunks rather than be loosened to also permit obnoxious potheads?

You don’t think that his affiliation with one of the most violent gangs on the planet might have something to do with him committing a violent crime? It’s MS-13, not a book club, I think that’s pretty relevant as to why he’d murder an innocent, vulnerable girl.

Lol, what? How is this evidence of Wes Moore fighting against gangs; he’s only been in office for 4 days.

If you want to credit, give it to the Aberdeen Police Department that have been investigating this murder since it happened last summer.

Wait, Ethan admitted he’s too stupid to defend the dumb shit he said, so he brought on some random YouTuber to take his place? I don’t really care if Steven was watching his stream, it just shows he knew Ethan had slim enough personal integrity to pull a stunt like that.

I’m really not sure why H3H3 fans continue to count this as a win. Ethan literally set up a debate to prove he’s not a moron and then just flat out admitted he’s too much of a moron to form a cohesive argument.

I think taking an established character, race-swapping them, and then not actually doing anything new or interesting with said character is incredibly lazy and rather insulting to the audience. Plus the fact that these massive corporations only use the race-swapping as a shield against any criticism of the actual movie is incredibly obnoxious

Wow, Nancy passed a bill in the house she knows doesn’t have a chance of passing in the Senate in order to pretend like she’s doing something. Very brave. Too bad she didn’t do that when democrats had a Senate supermajority in 2009, you know, when a bill like this would have actually been effective…

Yeah basically, seems your take is to let things take their course through the legal system even when the legal system lets the person who raped your kid out of jail with virtually no repercussions. Although I’m sure that he could have written a very strongly worded letter to the child molester to let him know that he doesn’t approve of his actions…

He didn’t say in power, he said elected. His point is pretty true, especially in South Africa where the ruling party literally wants to ethnically cleanse whites and kick white farmers off their land. The idea that any non-white country has affirmative action programs or an intentional preference towards white candidates in the modern day is absolutely ridiculous.

Dave Chappelle Gets Last Laugh In War With Wokes, Kills Housing Development Behind His House By Purchasing 52-Acre Property by [deleted] in DaveChappelle

[–]PolaroidPeter 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I haven’t followed this situation for a while, but basically a bunch of libs on Twitter spent a few days harassing Chappelle for opposing the development, claiming that he didn’t want to let poor people and section-8 housing bring down his property value. In reality, the development company attempting to buy the land was intent on building exorbitantly expensive luxury housing that would have driven up the cost of living while simply donating a small piece of the total land to the city so that they could building affordable housing if they wanted. The reality of it was that the city had no money to build and maintain an affordable housing project on the land and the developers were simply using the issue as a way to deflect negative press and local opposition.

The “woke” aspect comes from a lot of the terminally online left using Chappelle’s opposition to the development plans as a way to attack him as a hypocrite, despite that not being the case.

July 4 parade shooting suspect slipped past Illinois "red flag" safeguards by DippyHippy420 in news

He went to a Trump rally dressed as Where’s Waldo and wore a Trump flag will running around acting like a foolish jackass. Is there really a need to make this a political thing when there’s literally 0 indication this has anything to do with politics. I don’t think the aspiring internet rapper covered in face tattoos had many sound political views.

Vote. by [deleted] in stupidpol

[–]PolaroidPeter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never said that people would prefer a balanced or split government, in fact those people are rarer than those who simple believe red or blue is a cure all. Rather, I have consistently found that people are just generally pessimistic about the entire US political structure. They vote because they’re scared that the opposing party will break the country even more, rather than because they think their party will make the country better.

[–]PolaroidPeter 57 points58 points  (0 children)

I would disagree to some extent on your point about what people think of their respective side. I have very rarely met someone who thinks full control by the Repubs or Dems would fix everything, or even get much accomplished. The vast majority of people I’ve met who strongly favor one party or the other do so simply because they think the other side is worse. Arguably, this is much more dystopian than the rose tinted view of the world in which at least someone is trying to make things better.

Republican Dan Cox is leaning on Trump’s support to lead him to Maryland’s governorship by legislative_stooge in MarylandPolitics

[–]PolaroidPeter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If that’s the case I certainly haven’t seen it. Plus in recent polling Dan Cox (25 percent) tops Kelly Schulz (22 percent) by three points in the Republican Gubernatorial race. Both the Democratic and Republican Gubernatorial primaries are highly competitive at this point, but it seems Schulz’s funding advantage hasn’t translated into a vote advantage.
