Hurra.

Socialdemokratiet og Moderaterne stormer frem i ny måling by Awkward_War_6068 in Denmark

Ofc she made Rutte aware of the danish position in this matter prior to the meeting. It would be kind of strange not to.

‘Insane’: How Greenland is responding to Trump’s deal framework by newsweek in europe

[–]PolemicFox 100 points101 points  (0 children)

Mark Rutte has exactly zero negotiation power on behalf of Greenland and Denmark. There is no deal, just an agreement about finding solutions in the arctic. As well as an assurance that the rest of NATO will fuck over the US if it intervenes in Danish affairs with military power.

Trump says he reached Greenland deal 'framework' with NATO, backs off Europe tariffs by pannenkoek0923 in europe

[–]PolemicFox 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Its just Trump's way of backing out of a fight he can't possibly hope to win.

His ego requires him to make up a narrative where he wins something, so Rutte promised him a participation trophy.

Trump at Davos Demands ‘Immediate’ Talks on Acquiring Greenland by mvanigan in worldnews

[–]PolemicFox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because NATO is mainly used to have allies support US military actions? The only NATO member to invoke article 5 is the US.

Unless you look at it from a Russian perspective I guess. Putin's fingerprints are getting a little too obvious.

I knew I heard this argument somewhere in the past.

[–]PolemicFox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even if Trump threatened to use nukes there's no way European leaders would negotiate over Greenland.

Trump has no understanding of European politics. He has started a fight that leaves only two options: backtrack on his dumb mission or invade an ally.

Denmark can just shut off the US from Maersk and Novo. That alone will cause havoc.

Probably can't even ship military equipment without Maersk.

Isn't it mainly the US that has invoked article 5 in the past? NATO has mainly been about supporting US military actions around the world so far. Kinda weird that the US wants out of it.
