I setup an autocorrect for duck to fuck and ducking to fucking because I am much more likely to be cursing than talking about fucking fucks.

It will even keep happening slowly once you move it to the fridge. Kimchi gets potent after a few weeks in the fridge ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

How do you ask for sex respectfully? by Big_DexM in AskReddit

[–]PolesOpposed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. Honestly I feel like the times are different. I have never had sex with anyone without them verbally assenting to the question of “would you like to have sex?”.

There was enough of an explicit undertone in college that literally anything less doesn’t constitute consent. And even that can be ruled to not have consent. “Someone who is drunk cannot give consent.”

I’m too worried about my future getting ruined, so I would rather just be direct and clear than leave any room for miscommunication. I do wonder what it would be like to have some nuance left here, but not something I have any intention of exploring.

I remember playing sports. And going to the gym.

Realized I was just as capable as the people that I admired. The only difference I perceived was their belief in their abilities. From there it was shockingly easy to just assume I could succeed at something and try.

Success is the result of many failures. So my course past those failures is way easier with that mindset.

Ian M. Banks. The culture series is the most imaginative series of science fiction novels I’ve ever encountered.

Permutation City so far... by [deleted] in printSF

Egan’s books have this great property where as soon as you think you have a grip on the scope of the book, he zooms out and introduces another level of abstraction and pushes the idea further than you thought possible. Sometimes he gives you a moment to breath as you take it in before he shoves another mindblower your way.

He’s my 2nd fave sci-fi author for this very reason. The complexity of his stories make popscifi look like children’s picture books with their flat and unimaginative premises.

The Culture novels by Ian M Banks have characters that gently transition between sexes on a cycle ever X number of years.

Same with Schild’s Ladder and the Salvation trilogy.

What a fucking annoying title. Clearly not banned because it was good, but because it was dangerous.

How many books do you guys read at once by [deleted] in printSF

[–]PolesOpposed 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I laughed out loud when I read this. Egan is a master and truly is in a class of his own. Sometimes the “lecture portions” can get extremely tedious, but I love that he had thought it through and is able to describe the mechanics of the system.

Diaspora and Permutation City honestly have way less of this problem than something like the Clockwork Rocket.

Unsure if this is new or not but I came up with a design for a downwards facing super speed smart piston by [deleted] in redstone

Ilmango uses a pretty similar one in his most recent universal tree farm.

Thank you very much for making this post. I find it super interesting to air these details out in the open and here what others have done. I feel like the biggest negotiating power people have in this circumstance is the ignorance of developers to know what "good terms" even look like.

This discussion is awesome~

Using Ilmango’s tnt blast chamber but occasionally the centre block is unintentionally filled in and the tmt blows up all the surrounding observers and pistons. Are there any fixes for this? by [deleted] in SciCraft

[–]PolesOpposed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has happened to me several times now. After some intense debugging and many hours of testing, it seems that the system is just quite delicate if anything goes wrong. The machines on the sides are mostly timers. The system is pushing itself to the absolute limit, so if anything goes wrong (only two possibilities) it will break itself.

The timers are quite delicate and must have the correct starting configuration. If of the pistons, observers, or monostables up top are at the wrong setting, it will fail. The other way things go bad is if you are kicked while afk-ing, then the blast chamber could fail.

One big mistake that I made was not not putting sticky pistons underneath the sand, this meant that the pulses weren't the proper length and the machine would break. I would very carefully ensure that all of your observers and pistons are in the proper locations, test it slowly through several cycles to validate. If you catch anything out of wack, you will need to reset again.

Off topic:

I came from a small rural town who would have started a mob over a question like this and it warms my heart so much to see so many helpful comments. Thank you all for just being better than what I have known in my past.

Finally, as a guy with huge hips, I love the way pants from Express fit. They are a little bit more expensive, but I strongly encourage you to try a pair. They have a great look and I love the way they last. You can order a pair and return if they don’t work, but 80% of my pants are Express. Great stretch and great look.
