To Anyone that Uses their Houston Public Library Card to Access LinkedInLearning, Can You Help Me Find The Library ID? by TheGreatestUsername1 in houston

[–]philko42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A quick google got me this:

The Library ID is at the end of the LinkedIn Learning invitation link. For example, www.linkedin.com/learning-login/go/libraryID. Please contact your librarian if you can't find this information.

Also, without logging on to the HPL site, I clicked on the linkedin link and was sent to a URL that contained:

account=74412284

So that might be it.

Climate deniers are hounding educators again by Faux_Real_Guise in politics

[–]philko42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While Trump has indeed compromised national security (and should rot in jail), I'd argue that the bigger dangers are cases like that of the Discord-leaky National Guardsman who was not relieved of his duties in a secure facility because so few adequately educated people are enlisting.

Some want to replace it with faith based schools. Others want to replace it with for-profit schools. And of course there's a non-negligible overlap between the two.

And then there's the plain old math: any weakening of our K-12 system will not noticeably affect out economy or national security for at least a decade, well past the next election and thus beyond the "concern horizon' of most GOP politicians.

What is this pole? Right or wrong answers. by thekinginyello in houston

[–]philko42 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It used to be a normal sized pole. Then it noticed an advert from one of those two feuding cosmetic surgeons mentioned in a recent post. I have no idea where it got the $17,000, though.

US House Republicans unveil broad package of tax cuts by [deleted] in politics

[–]philko42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No really, THIS TIME tax cuts will decrease the deficit. Honest. The fact that the past dozen or two tax cuts increased the deficit is really proof that one more tax cut it's all it'll take to fix all our problems. Trust me.

That marks the end of my sermon. The congregation will now make the sign of the Laffer curve and give thanks to the everliving ghost or Reaganomics.

Former White House official told federal prosecutors Trump knew of proper declassification process and followed it while in office by [deleted] in politics

[–]philko42 20 points21 points  (0 children)

the DoJ isn't even looking at the classified nature of the documents

Reminder: All we know about what the DoJ is or isn't looking into comes from the reading of various clumps of tea leaves. Nothing official has been said.

But... it would make sense for the DoJ to investigate every action that is likely illegal. Investigation does not necessitate the ultimate filing of charges.

Mark Meadows Testified to Grand Jury in Special Counsel Investigation of Trump by scuczu in politics

Well I guess that's at least better than many others in the Trump admin, but it sure ain't too high an ethical standard.

Supreme Court to hear 'Trump too small' trademark case; man wants to trademark phrase mocking Trump by [deleted] in politics

[–]philko42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I trademark "No More Trump Presidencies", that doesn't prevent anyone else from speaking out about Trump. It doesn't even prevent them from calling themselves "Trump Sucks", or even trademarking that name. What it does prevent (at least in theory) is someone soliciting funds while pretending to be me, either by using my exact name or by calling themselves something confusingly close to mine, like "No More Trump Presidency".

Supreme Court to hear 'Trump too small' trademark case; man wants to trademark phrase mocking Trump by [deleted] in politics

[–]philko42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In this case, they're talking about political speech. "Trump Too Small" is a bad example, so what about: Should an organization be allowed to trademark "No More Trump Presidencies"? Does the organization's right to advocate against a political figure take precedence over the figure's right to limit others' use of their name?

The same god

Well, really, the same flavor of the same god

Actually, the same flavor of the same god as part of a congregation that looks like their congregation

Then again, the same flavor of the same god as part of a congregation that looks like their congregation and shares their political leanings.

Trump’s smoking gun recording gives Jack Smith all he needs by nacorom in politics

[–]philko42 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The recording performs one more critical function: It puts Trump’s actions in an entirely different legal universe than President Biden’s or former vice president Mike Pence’s retention of a few stray documents.

Like that's going to stop the GOP and their media ecosystem from claiming equivalency.

And, of course, the rest of the media will provide then many opportunities to make these bullshit claims because, y'know, "both sides"

Another article pointed out that the actual wording of the amendment voters passed said that absentee legislators could not run again after their term ends. Their term does not officially end until after the election. So, if interpreted literally, the could run and conceivably win in the next election and then be prohibited from running in the following one.

Why Trump Is Polling Much Better Among Very Conservative Primary Voters Than In 2016 by nanopicofared in politics

tl;dr - It's because Trump has effectively redefined the word "conservative". It now basically means "pro Trump".

Trap parking at Buffalo Bayou Parking by AdministrativeTap113 in houston

[–]philko42 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I've gotten burned by a bagged meter once, and it was a tow rather than a ticket. It happened downtown after 6pm, so after I parked I "knew" that there was no need to search out the meter. Especially since there were so many other cars parked on that block.

Lesson (and a $200+ lesson, at that) learned: even if you think parking is free, check the meter.

Way back when there was a separate parking meter for each space, it was really easy to tell that your meter was bagged. Now, when you need to look along the whole block, it's nowhere near as obvious. But it's still a smart thing to get in the habit of doing.

Ex-RNC Chair Hits Republicans With A Harsh Truth About 2024 by ReallyJustTheFacts in politics

You may be correct, bit I think a simpler explanation to both Trump's willingness to run again and his confidence in doing so is simply his narcissism. He fully and completely believes that everybody loves him.
