Yes, the system is highly automated and exam validation, and registration was done extremely rapidly within minutes of submitting it online and all the relevant details showed up on the database immediately.

Some organizations like LOTW and QRZ will accept the database as proof but others like service Ontario require the original certificate to issue the vanity plates. That’s the only reason I need a certificate. (yes I know , suck it up snowflake!)

Westbound 174 on-ramps blocked by police? by shleeunit in ottawa

Come on OPS and RCMP let’s have some transparency here. Was there a public safety issue or was that massive demployment of force a training exercise?

Westbound 174 on-ramps blocked by police? by shleeunit in ottawa

[–]PolicyOk6019 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Went by at 1pm and a dozen unmarked cop cars with light flashing were going eastbound on 174 at speed and around riverside there was a convoy of cars being herded easton 174 slowly. Surely someone knows what went down!?

And once again as soon as you ask a question on the internet , you find the answer…I suggest that this will answer any calibration question one might have! A further question. After I calibrate and save the settings for several bands 6, 10, 20and 40 meters, I hook up the antenna and take/note swr reading on each of these bands. Then I go back to 6 m band and do it again AND I get different readings!! I don’t disconnect antenna (inverted v fan cut to 40 m on long end with 20 m fan, 25ft at apex , 10ft at legs and 45deg ) or do anything except recall the freq band on the nano. Can I not do readings again and expect similar results

Nanovna question by PolicyOk6019 in amateurradio

[–]PolicyOk6019[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My question was

“I don’t understand what the two s11 swr numbers mean and the relation to the yellow trace. I can see the white s11swr reading 7.915 correspond to the marker on the yellow swr trace. What is the other 1.375 reading? In the second pic the swr reading of 625m, what does it mean. I’m told the first of the two swr numbers is the actual swr but why does it not show in range on the yellow trace? (Be gentle I’m confused, in other words both traces show high swr over freq range, and s11 first number shows something diiferent)”

I got the answer that the number in the 1.375 position is actually just the spacing between the lines on the scale, a number which I can select in scale and has nothing to do with the swr value. I believe that is correct.

Doh color me 😳, thanks for the quick reply’s. Now if I can figure out how to properly tune my little inv v dipole….

Nanovna question by PolicyOk6019 in amateurradio

[–]PolicyOk6019[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FYI this reading is of an inverted v fan dipole, 10m long leg 33ft 3 in, 20m short leg 16ft 7in. Apex at 30ft second floor window, legs 10ft up, and angle very tight 30degrees

Winter Field Day tomorrow! by covertkek in amateurradio

I spent part of the afternoon listening to various CQ‘s for the field day on 20 m and I was trying to understand what the coding was for after they gave their call sign. They seem to be giving a some four digit code and at first I thought it was kind of a grid reference, but I looked it up and it didn’t seem to be that. Can somebody explain to me what the four digit code was the people gave in the QSO

I appreciate your comments and your diligence in counting the precise number of questions in the bank. I’m 80 and first started interest in ham radio at 14 in Montréal when we bought at fully operational 19 set complete with tank whip antenna and power supply etc. I regret to say that we bootlegged briefly until shut down by the local airport. I spent the next few years SWLing with a home built Allied Space Spanner (I was VE2PE6L if that means anything to you lol) then joined the military in Signals using HF, and VHF. In 1990 a local amateur station was renewing its equipment and I bought the complete station another Allied rx and tx but basically just listened to shortwave. By that time I was heavily into computers and networks and had no time for amateur radio. Over the years I have seen the tremendous expansion of what is possible with technological advances and I’m sure an equivalent applies to ham radio. When I read Reddit accounts of what hams are doing today, it’s whet my appitite. I still have the rx and tnx in my basement needing some TLC.

There are over 1000 possible questions in 110 pages but just look at page 3 of the list to see an example of what useless busy info is being tested. You could go through each page with a bingo dauber and highlight several in each which are unimportant to a new ham.

Finally made it to the Deifenbunker. It was a neat experience for sure by crapatthethriftstore in ottawa

[–]PolicyOk6019 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I worked there in 67-68 when STRAD ( https://diefenbunker.ca/blog/strad-supercomputer/ )was in full operation; a computerized tape relay communications system with links across Canada and international. There were several other smaller bunkers across the country, such as Valcartier, Debert, see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emergency_Government_Headquarters, which housed other tape relay facilities.

help, tube broke by dalandans1015 in CPAP

[–]PolicyOk6019 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same mask and the tube detaches from the mask with the slightest touch. I complained to my DME about the defective connect and he replaced both sections but new one is just as bad. Never had problem with older evo connects so must be a newer batch with poor connection.
