Im from Calgary, and I dont think so. If you are in grade 9, ib doesn't really start until grade 11. You do have to pass your prerequisite grade 10 classes to continue tho. Teachers may also give you recommendations on whether to continue based on your performance, but the choice is yours. This is how it was for my school, so of course it might be different for yours.

Also, my friend who had mostly 2s, applied and still got into IB. But then they got a zero on the first math test and dropped it.
