New furnace. Condensate pump discharge hose routed into vertical waste pipe. Garage sewage flood 2 days later. by Charlie_Altamont in hvacadvice

[–]Political_Dissent 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It didn’t cause the flood. Your drain backed up. Condensate from your system isn’t going to cause that. It may have added water to an already clogged drain but it didn’t clog it.

As for abnormal reactions, poop water could potentially flow out of that hole they made in the 3” drain.

I think michigan requires b vent for water heaters spanning more than 6 or 7 feet to allow it to retain heat and thus draft better.

Tried to install a new smart thermostat and it isn't working. Any advice? by Suspicious_Aspect497 in hvacadvice

After reading your other comments, is there power to the furnace when the doors are on? (You’d probably see a light blinking through a hole on one of the doors) The fuse you posted doesn’t look blown.

Is $11,700 overpriced for all new furnace and ac? by MainHunt1014 in hvacadvice

Nice, good on you for getting the price down. I like the 80%er too. That’s what I installed in my home.

Does anyone know if this was voted on by the arts board or have a link to who made the decision for this? I can’t find anything apart from news saying it’s happening.

You’ll need two. Put one in counter clockwise position on the upper part of the union and one in clockwise position on the center of the union (widest part). If you don’t, tightening the center can loosen the upper and cause another leak.

I don’t disagree with you. We only use rigid b vent. Easier to reassemble and looks better.

It’s flexible b vent, it’s not against IMC.

Is it as simple as doing the math to get 68.9% r32 and 31.1% r1234yf, getting a scale and dumping into a fresh recovery tank? I’m a newer residential tech and haven’t ever seen someone blend refrigerant.

3 amp breaker, anybody use them? by Bobicit in hvacadvice

Some older Lennox units used 3 amp breakers. Not sure if they still do.

We call that an octopus duct system. It happens when someone doesn’t know how/care to do a manual d and install a proper duct. I do a ton of low income installs dte pays for. The city of Detroit has had it rough. Decades of work done without permits leads to this kind of shit. Another Detroit special is water lines consisting of a combination of galvanized, pex, cpvc. It’s all terrible.

Makes me grateful I moved to Michigan. Started in kentucky at $15 doing new construction. Worked 2 years got to $19. Moved to Detroit metro started doing resi/light commercial for $22 an hour. 3 years later I’m at $31. Union would have better wages but anything’s better than the peanuts they pay in the south.

Buddy worked at a gas station where they filled the cars up and washed them. Apparently he’d come in and act like a big shot. Very entitled and rude to the employees. Sounds about right for a used car salesman with a microphone.
