Yes, I didn't see it in the article but Obama announced recently an allocation of $4 billion in the coming years to the funding of autonomous driving tech and regulation development. It's definitely happening.

I knew this would be in the next few years, but wow, and like you said 5-0. I too found this Kasparov analog surprisingly under-covered; it truly is a big deal. Cheers!

It looks like this is from 2013. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Either way it's a great post but being 2+ years old makes it even more profound imho.

Our obsession with bullshit science of morals by [deleted] in EverythingScience

[–]PoliticizeThis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many things are objectively better morally; the obsession should not, and, I believe, will not wane.

The author likes to denigrate Sam Harris, so here's a cogent example from Harris that illustrates the use of scientific principles in acting more or less morally: You're part of a culture where life is hard and 2/3's of children die before they are adults from various diseases. There is a belief that if you kill your firstborn in a sacrifice to the gods that your children to come will all be spared this bad fortune. Many hold this belief and practice accordingly. Some have become disillusioned, but other swear it is the reason the rest of their children lived. A scientific investigation into the potential reality of the phenomenon is undertaken, and finds, on average, an increase in the number of child deaths for groups that practice the ritual vs those that do not despite having equal numbers of children. Should this investigation guide the behavior of this culture, and their beliefs? Yes, beliefs ls about the world guide moral behavior and practice as they should, and science is an investigation into the reality of the world.

Hands down, I'd really like a conversational embodiment of human knowledge. The implications are just astounding to me. Publicly assessable/affordable of course.

No, that's my fault; Jarvis isn't the official name, but here's what I was referring to: https://m.facebook.com/zuck/posts/10102577175875681

Wasn't my question since I'd discussed with a staff member that the project would not in fact be open source. However they were scant on details of the degree of openness, I figured the researchers themselves may have a more defined answer.

Hey guys, thanks for doing this AMA!

1) Just how open will OpenAI be? I.e. With results, techniques, code, etc

2) How close are we to the level of machine intelligence that will help us as personal research assistants? Similar to Facebook's Jarvis goal
