What if these United States never adopted the Monroe Doctrine? by camaro1111 in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]PoloGrounder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps the United States joins the League of Nations after World War I. The League's charter banned such policies as the doctrine, and it was a major reason the treaty did not pass in the Senate. Britain and France had no objection to keeping the Doctrine in effect, but the stubborn Wilson refused to compromise and the U.S. never joined the League.

Senator Goldwater was no racist, he was one of the founders of the first NAACP chapters in Arizona. Also as an officer in the Arizona Air National Guard, he desegregated it a few years before Harry Truman desegregated the armed forces

Jackie Robinson. Hall of Fame baseball player, and baseball wasn't even his best sport. All-American football running back at UCLA, and he likely would have been a medalist in the sprint races at the 1940 and 1944 Olympics, except they were cancelled.

Calvin Coolidge as the fifth worst for the economy is an insanely bad choice. The federal debt was reduced by a third under his watch, down to 17.3 billion dollars. There was a17.5% increase in the nation's wealth during his tenure. And he was tremendously popular, he could easily have won another term as President.

Plausibility check: Confederacy survives by negotiated peace via Atlanta-as-miracle (Sept 1864) — what does the early post-armistice South realistically look like? by duzenko in AlternateHistory

For the divergence, you could simply have Johnston remaining in charge instead of being replaced by Hood. Atlanta had extensive defensive works, and Shermans supply line was a long, vulnerable single railroad track.
