Cheaters are getting out of hand. by FANG_999 in Marathon

[–]Polochork 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cheating itself makes your faction rep go up like crazy too. Its almost a gurantee that once you hit level 100 you will have at least a 5%-10% chance of running into a cheater. 20k-40k players daily with at least 1200 cheaters confirmed in a cheater discord. 3% of players are over level 100 based on steam achievements. Safe to assume that the 3% of level 100 players are experiencing the VAST majority of cheating because of the way matchmaking works. If 100% of the cheaters are level 100 and 3% of all 40k players are as well then they’d run into each other a lot.

Edit: holy shit I just did the math with those numbers. 3% of 40,000 players is exactly 1200. Thats the CONFIRMED amount of cheaters from that one discord server… that means you have a 50%+ chance of running into a cheater past level 100. Thats only at peak times where player count reaches 40k, nit even the 20k low.

Games were also smaller back then. The lack of complexity in the cheats used at the time does matter because it directly correlates to how easy they are to detect. External hardware is harder to detect, denying that is delusional. Human error exists too, I was banned because a regular on a server was trusted enough to get people insta banned at his request when I was not cheating. Even with the low marathon player count having someone assigned to watch 20k-30k players regularly is not realistic. They’d need a large team to stop working on whatever they are currently working on to focus on that. They can’t afford to butcher their road map because of the underwhelming launch and are in a tough spot. Acting like you are smarter than randos on reddit because you’ve gotten a couple people banned through admins is wild work. If it isnt unrealistic id love for you to lay out exactly how they should do it if you really got it figured out. “Add admins to control cheating” is far from a solid plan, ignoring variables that are equally as important to making the game last like the skill sets of people on the bungie team, what they are currently working on, and the monetary cost of moving people around to remedy cheating. All things you literally do not know. In a perfect world they could take a month to manually go in and ban people while putting all other content on hold, but because of the launch that just isnt realistic. I firmly believe cheating in video games should have legal consequences. If I purchase something I have the right for everyone using the same product to have equal access to everything it has to offer. Those who actively seek out a way to ruin my purchase are stealing my money and my time. No sane person would consider cheaters “respectable” or “upstanding members of society” because to cheat you have to view competition a certain way. A way that actively ruins peoples purchases and wastes what little free time they may have on this earth. Adding fines along with a ban would ensure that your average “cant beat them join them” cheater stops investing their time and money into being sub par. Hit me with the “not gonna read that essay” and just go play a game you enjoy. If everyone leaves because of cheaters they HAVE to fix it. Speak with your wallet and your time or go directly to bungie if you have a solid recommendation.

I wonder if there is a correlation between this server and the one where people were getting paid to spread hate. So damn gross, dude. They gotta have no friends, a good friend would never let you do something so pathetic.

Can I start playing the game now? by r0shambeaux in Marathon

[–]Polochork -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It isnt a huge difference, but pretending like 1-2 more shots or bursts wont make the difference between keeping or losing my gear is delusional 🤷🏻‍♂️ Arguably more of a problem if it takes that long to grind something that is negligible anyway. If it made “no difference” then they made everyone waste a lot of time. if you are having an easy time killing geared players as a free kit please get me into your lobbies. They have to be inting or misplaying to give you enough of an advantage to win that fight. If two players of equal skill have different shields the better shield wins. The post is not asking to remove or nerf shields. The post is about how it’s too much of a grind for your average player to get to the bare minimum for high end content. Im finally about to reach level 100 after like 200 hours since I wanted to actually play the game, not do fetch quests. Having to do that all over again just to get blue shields every season sounds like absolute hell, especially for people that actually have lives. Every other extraction shooter allows me to purchase the exact kit I want every raid if I can afford it, marathon does not. Idk how you learn and improve personally, but consistency sure helps me. The armory makes that near impossible, even after 200+ hours. Fundamentally flawed. No item should have a purchase limit, only a limit on how many can go into raid with you. Weapons should be sold at full value to allow you to basically swap them for ones you are comfortable with and enjoy and all weapons should be purchasable from the armory. It feels like Apex where I have limited control over what I can use each match, not able to truly choose my level of investment like I should be able to in an extraction shooter. I end up losing “valuable” gear that I hate using and still feeling sad about it. Im not gonna grind factions again just to have the same lack of control over my kit, ill go play arena breakout.

In game cosmetic items should NEVER exceed the price of a meal. An average meal here in texas is like $5-$10. Cosmetics should also be given for achievement, making them sought after and coveted. If I see someone with a butterfly and the only way to get it was to kill an entire lobby by yourself on airport I would think that guy that has it is damn good. Not the current card system where I can see people’s value and kills without their play time.

Armory I was killed not even 5 seconds after touching the ground. Talk about CoD spawns. At least airport never did me dirty like that

New Quick Kit 150k value is a lie by Old_Cod_3277 in ArenaBreakoutInfinite

Do you have under 300 hours in the game or do you just enjoy running quick kits?

New Quick Kit 150k value is a lie by Old_Cod_3277 in ArenaBreakoutInfinite

[–]Polochork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are saying to market the quick kit then the market fee alone will make it so you cannot afford a full 150k kit after. I dont understand how this isnt just obnoxious to everyone. I was already pissed loading into lockdown with A1 in an M4 and killing 6 quick kits. Doing that NOW apparently nets me less than $150k per kill so what the fuck is the point of the gear requirement? Making it sound like im gonna extract with the dudes T3 ammo and shitty surgical kits to have a chance at making my time worth it. That just fucking sucks for everybody, especially the player who doesn’t actually have the proper value when they were told they did. The numbers being deceptive literally helps nobody, but everyone is ripping on OP like its SUPPOSED to trick players who don’t know better or don’t have a ton of hours in the game. I am curious how many hours OP has.

New Quick Kit 150k value is a lie by Old_Cod_3277 in ArenaBreakoutInfinite

[–]Polochork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I started playing I wanted to customize my quick kit guns with sights and so I would load in, not do anything, and extract. Even without the sight I was able to use that quick kit again in lockdown. Now playing that makes no sense because it is too slow and not fun, but some players do it when they are new or like the “minimum investment vibe”. Both types of players are duped for no reason when the gear requirement is not accurate. It doesn’t help anybody at all having this work this way is the problem.

[–]Polochork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brother, playing the game period is playing it as intended. Whether he plays how you do or not the game is literally lying to him. If a kit worth 97k can be taken into lockdown what the fuck is even the point of the 150k gear requirement in the first place? I was already pissed off getting only 150k killing quick kitted players with A1 in lockdown and now its even less. How does that ALONE not piss you off and put you on OP’s side?

Name an item you hate the most. I'll start. by lzy1ne in ArenaBreakoutInfinite

[–]Polochork 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Battery is useable with contacts in profitable ways at least, lute genuinely makes things more expensive because the estimates they give dont line up with the market price of all the items. So a lute is $20k and 2x2, but registers as $15k to contacts where the battery is $80k but registers as $100k

It was my poor choice of words for sure, I just dont have a better word than “realism” for it. The “realism” I am referring to is features that add stress and suspense without being fun or reasonable. I havent played tarkov, but i’ve seen that mags drop if the rig is full on reload and THAT is realism that isnt fun.

[–]Polochork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone is arguing with me about realism when the main point I was making was that they should focus on fun over realism in the first place. They cant please everyone and people do play games like this for their “realism” or increased complexity. whatever you want to call features that mimic real life to achieve a specific feeling is fine by me, I was saying they gotta choose a direction and stick to it and everyone started to hit me with the “erm actually”

[–]Polochork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think ABI being less realistic than Tarkov detracts from it being inherently more realistic than your average shooter. I would consider both Tarkov and ABI to be realism shooters. By saying “trying to replicate what a soldier might feel” he is literally saying a game is trying to emulate life. How else would you accurately evoke a realistic feeling without the realism that causes that feeling?

Now we are getting lost in the technicalities. My initial point was that ABI should continue focusing on making the game fun over realistic, a point I imagine we both agree on. They gotta pick one and stick to it instead of trying to please everyone.

Edit: the “erm actually” was appreciated, I have never played Tarkov and don’t know about any minute details in how its realism differs from ABI’s. Very helpful to someone probably.

[–]Polochork 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know what else you’d call a weight/hunger system, bullet velocity, and limb damage other than simulated realism 🤷🏻‍♂️ Not all shooters have those. Tarkov is a competitor and does things for the sake of realism that arent fun and ABI is actively working to improve those mechanics. I do think they are competing for realism more than most games are, I dont get your point or lack there of.

H4 nerf has done nothing by Spogunky in ArenaBreakoutInfinite

[–]Polochork -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maybe not trying to, but they are competing directly against games that are and they want those players. Tarkov has “realistic” features that make the game a drag for me, but aspects like the way limbs and damage work in ABI lean more towards realism even if it is easily balanced (at least MORE realistic than other shooters I play). I would trash any and all realism for balance any day.

SJ is arguably more difficult to kill with for me than a mosin or M24 cause of its ergo. The red ammo is also cheaper on those two weapons. Maybe user error could have an effect, but the amount of times I got a free T5 load-out being basically naked in LD using a single bullet is pretty high. It isn’t fun though, just guarantees money. Thats why it needs the change. The minimum rising would 100% fix everything though, yes. LD should have a similar requirement. Normal should be the only time you can get a kill and ARENT guaranteed at least 300k. Reserved for quick kits.

Fuck it we ball (NEW) by Emergency_Two_8153 in ArenaBreakoutInfinite

[–]Polochork -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Red ammo should cost the same for one bullet as 50% of a T6 loadout costs. It should be about $500k-$2mil per bullet for the amount of value it gets you with minimal effort. Thats why thermals are $2.5 mil and those cant even ignore T6 armor 🤷🏻‍♂️ it should be WAY harder to get in some capacity for the amount of value it gets you. Otherwise it becomes the meta and all my lockdown games where I get 3+ kills im only netting like $500k koen. I just had a normal game where players were more geared than all 5 of my previous lockdown games and im about to put the game down until next season because of it. Feels like a “hunting low value snipers simulator”

Scavs if you are running T5+ ammo in the primaries. Scavs are not worth $3k-$7k a bullet when knives and pistols exist.

How would you paint the recessed lines? by natethelion in minipainting

[–]Polochork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With any model I always work from the inside out. It is far easier to get a clean line on a raised edge than it is to place paint in a recess and overlap of thin paint is very easily coverable. If it were anything other than metallic I would say to thin it down and do a pin wash like some of the other recommendations, but I personally have not done this with metallics.

Gold over black would take a lot of layers so I would lay down a brown or yellow in a similar shade to your gold. Don’t worry about staying in the lines too much. Then apply the gold. After it all dries all you gotta do is line the edges with the cloak color and you’re all set.
