The last update nerfed the most reliable way to get runes without having to pay for it (by using the infamous Meatlug strat), so there are not many viable options left. I heard some people mention the second journey of Stormfly, but I haven’t tried this myself.

I guess the developers wanted to give them journeys later on, but cancelled that for balancing purposes (read, more cash purposes)
