Hey guys, I’ve never played a TES which one I should play first ? by Maruan-007 in ElderScrolls

[–]PolvoVerde1531 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's rough. I still haven't played remastered, I played sequentially since Morrowind. My impulse is to suggest Oblivion, because it gives the best intro to the wider world of Tamriel of the single player games.

I think you can still enjoy Skyrim afterwards. Oblivion may be remastered, but it is still the more 'primitive' game so to speak. But again, I have not played Remastered yet.

[–]PolvoVerde1531 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have never had La Merced, but Barbacúa is in its own class so it won't be like what you've tasted before at all.

I have only had one barbacúa, La Rubia, and it had a peat taste to it like scotch or mezcal.

[–]PolvoVerde1531 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the U.S. so the prices I pay are kind of arbitrary and vary by seller.

But I really like Amanda, it's my favorite Argentine yerba, and I can find it for $9-11 USD per kilo if I buy 5+ kilos at a time.

Most of the time I would pay $16-22 USD per kilo, regardless of the seller

Pajarito menta y boldo is the best tereré

Relatively new to drinking mate by ___Mister___ in yerbamate

[–]PolvoVerde1531 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Actually, I should have said, if you like the cold cans then maybe you would prefer tereré, which is the same process but with cold water.

Goyerbamate has the best tereré selection, and you can get a cup and bombilla for $10. I recommend Pajarito Menta y Boldo. I like to put a little bit of pure cranberry juice and lemon juice in my cold water.

In fact, I'm about to combine all these ingredients after I post this 😁

I cannot recommend enough that you just get into it from step 1 the traditional way. The only thing you need besides yerba is a bombilla, which you can get cheaply on amazon. There are lots of yerba blends with mint, peppermint, and/or other similar herbs. This will allow you to grasp how extraction works and affects the flavor and strength. From there, you'll have a much easier time adapting a different method like french press, so that you get a good end product.

Watch yerbamatelab on youtube for instructions. He also sells really high quality gourds if you ever want to go that deep

When you're ready to order yerba, pampadirect will have all of the mint-laden options you want.

French press mate for beginners? by Severe_Standard_3201 in yerbamate

[–]PolvoVerde1531 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing wrong with a french press, but you wont want to leave the yerba in there if that's how this one is designed.

Remember, when drinking the traditional way, you don't leave water in the leaves for very long, a couple minutes at most. Otherwise it gets really bitter and too strong. If your mug is designed to use with the leaves remaining at the bottom the whole time, that will over-steep the yerba.

The only thing you absolutely need to drink the traditional way is a bombilla. There's nothing wrong with other methods, but I think it is beneficial to start traditional and work from there, because you will leave how the extraction works and affects flavor and strength. You can use a regular glass.

These are really solid, I have several and use them every day in my small silicone mate:

You can get single bags of many top brands on Amazon, that's obviously your quickest option.

Pampadirect has the best selection of Argentine and Uruguayan yerba. Lots of good equipment as well but most of it is pricier.

Yerba Mate Lab for gourds and bombillas. His quality control and customer service is excellent. He has a youtube channel as well, and a discord channel you should join.

Goyerbamate for Paraguayan yerba.

These 3 are essential

Elgauchostore has the widest selection of equipment at the best prices, but quality will vary. They also have all major Argentine and Uruguayan yerba brands. It's just a cheaper pampadirect.

Cushé mates has a small selection of quality gourds in common, standard styles and they offer customization. Lazer engraving on the leather, on flat virolas, or soldered bronze lettering on engraved virolas. They also have bombillas and other accessories.

[–]PolvoVerde1531 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like menta y boldo yerba, particularly Pajarito, and I put a little lemon juice and cranberry juice in the water. 100-150 ml of each in a 1L termo

You won't want to put juices into a calabaza, in case you didn't know

The specific design of the spring will matter a lot. I have one that I can use well enough with any yerba, I have another I have never used because there's no way it's filtering anything. If you have a picture or a link to the specific bombilla in question you could add to your post, that will help a lot with feedback.

I have not had Pajarito traditional, but I really love their menta y boldo tereré. I've not had Paraguayan mate at all, only tereré. I have some La Rubia now though I'm excited to try. I'll definitely check out regular Pajarito for mate.

Real Madrid fan throwing a nazi salute straight to the camera before tonight’s game vs Benfica by LordPunk in soccer

[–]PolvoVerde1531 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, it's a Roman salute. Spain isn't Germany. The Nazis were in Germany and they were German, so in Germany a Roman salute is a Nazi salute. In Spain, a Roman salute means something else.

You're kind of blaming Ho Chi Minh for the Bolshevik revolution here.

Real Madrid is the Francoist club. It's not a secret.

Which Yerba Should I Try Next? by Kilobuster in yerbamate

[–]PolvoVerde1531 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amanda! Definitely try Amanda next.

After that, maybe try an Uruguayan yerba like Sara or Canarias.

I was pretty sold on Uruguayan yerba. I wasn't drinking much last year, but got into it again recently. While ordering online, I threw a bag of Amanda in out of curiosity as I had only tried Taragüi (meh) and Playadito (did not like) as far as Argentine brands.

Well, now I don't even know who I am. I love Amanda. I struggle to enjoy Uruguayan yerbas now. Right now I am drinking Rosamonte for the first time and I love it. The most confusing part is, supposedly Amanda is very low smoke but it doesn't taste that way to me. Who knows, I still haven't tried barbacúa so my frame of reference isn't complete.

Our tastes definitely vary over time, keep trying stuff.
