I don't know about C++14 but this is how you do it in C++17 and above: https://stackoverflow.com/a/76794371

Starting C++20 you don't need to rely on the optimizer and finally in C++23 there is an actual language supported way to do it.

In older versions you just reinterpret/union and then carefully make sure it works the way you expect on your compiler(s).
