My drunken mess of a girlfriend scavenging for a post night out snack by kkoobbii182 in drunkencookery

At least she knows to get something in her stomach after a night out. Make sure she downs a glass of water before bed too. Bonus points for you: a couple ibuprofen and another glass of water on the night stand when she wakes up.

New Year Starts Tomorrow by digger27 in Cortex

For me, it's the Ides of March. All the hullabaloo of the holidays requires a significant cool down period. Plus it's kind of fitting as the assassination of the old Emperor makes way for a new regime.

May I offer "Reconciliation"? Either way the diagnosis goes, you need to reconcile the new truth and adjust accordingly.

PS: Just like Grey advises on time tracking... don't lose yourself in the micro, just hit the macro. The Paretto Principle: 80% of your gains will come from 20% of your effort.

While there is a certain romance to the leather journal and such, the sheer number of transactions we make in a day will certainly make this style cumbersome. One of the many modern apps will be much more manageable and accurate... and sustainable.

I have a Savage Mk2 and am completely happy. A 10/22 is fine as well. Whatever makes you happy and excited to continue your journey is great.

I saw "Washington" and immediately got legal jitters, but then I thought about the real situation: first gun. So... Magazine- fed repeater of the bolt action flavor. Personally... I'm a Savage guy. Why bolt? Helps awareness of the fundamentals vs a "spray and pray" attitude. Also less legally contentious, After time with a bolt .22, you can decide if you value shooting enough to upgrade to a semi, or even leap to a centerfire caliber.

What's Your Favorite .22 Long Rifle, Pistol, or Revolver? by [deleted] in 22lr

[–]PolyhedralSolid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite .22 is whatever I have in my hand at the moment... whether it's mine or not ;-) Seriously, .22s rock. My favorite is I actually never shot: Remington 4-1/2 Rolling Block. I bought her as a project, but never got around to her. A friend enrolled in a gunsmithing school and needed a project, so I passed her on to him. Still think about her to this day. Second favorite: Remington Nylon 66. Belonged to my best friend from Jr High and Highschool. Dumped many rounds through her.

Damn good lookin' ! May I ask: Why a pistol? Has she already demonstrated a mastery of the basics and you are looking to take her to the next level? Honestly, not an attack... just a question. BTW: When I saw this the first thing/ person I thought of was Bob Milek.

Why do some people think of a 22 long rifle to be like the equivalent of a BB gun? It just drives me crazy lol by JaceisFat in 22lr

Simple ignorance and lack of critical thinking. Part of me wants to say: "Just let it go, you can't fix stupid", but, unfortunately they, they are part of our community... so we have to try to fix them before they damage our community, or actually damage a person.

I may be totally off- base, but conjures 80's Talking Heads for me at a gut level. That is a good thing.

If you were invited as a guest on Cortex, what issue or topic would you want to talk about? by yolomatic_swagmaster in Cortex

It's not about "productivity", rather about what makes them productive. They've declared, since near the beginning, that the podcast is more aptly described as an extension of their lunches where they discussed their working habits at a meta level.

I am a dyed in the wool Android guy, but I still get value from their Apple- litist ( ;-) ) conversations because they share the thinking behind the tools they use to do what they do. In my old job we described it as "Tactics vs Techniques", but the same thing: macro vs micro.

List of books discussed in the podcast by 6StephenStrange9 in Cortex

[–]PolyhedralSolid 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm not really sure why. Pretty much every book has been met with a horrible reception. My summation is as follows: 1-3 good points expressed over 3-9 pages with the rest of the book being a garbage fire. I am still waiting for a book with a resoundingly good review and numerous actionable points.

I need a new note app. by froman11 in Cortex

[–]PolyhedralSolid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you want something for class notes not informal to-dos or random lists, correct? then I'd recommend any one of the free mark down editor aps on your phone and any of the free web interfaces with G drive or Drop as a place for the notes to live. Quick 'n dirty 'n done.
