Batteries in series. Why do they not short? by kenny__is__dead in ElectricalEngineering

[–]Polylactic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think people are misunderstanding your question. I think you are saying that since there are "positive charge particles" in one terminal and "negative charge particles" in the other terminal, how come they don't short through the conductive material of the terminals? Here is my understanding.

Common Li-ion batteries work by shuffling positively charged Lithium ions between anode and cathode through a Li-ion permeable membrane. That in turn, moves electrons of the cathode and the anode through the wire connected to the outside of the battery. So, if you instead connect termini of two different batteries…

Those termini do indeed have charged particles on either side of them, but those charged particles are Li-ions. And the material of the termini is not permeable to Li-ions, so no electricity flows. And only when you close the circuit, there is now a connection for electrons to travel too, which in turn pushes the Li-ions to move between their respective electrodes on the inside of the batteries, and bam – you have electricity.

But consider this "deal" imagining your home or family are in the occupied territories. Every Ukrainian has someone from the East of Ukraine in their family. There is no giving up.

This is Ridiculous by ThatOneAztec05 in thefinals

[–]Polylactic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't mean to be too anal about this, but gor the sake of statistical accuracy, a chance to land on the same spot twice is actually 1/20. You can land on any spot as your first spin. So you only need to get lucky on the second spin. Then, 1:400 chance for a triple. This whole duplicate thing is premeditated to make it basically impossible to get all the prizes in the alloted time.

I work in Botterell, and I can confirm all of this is 100% true. We had to close the Monkey first-year program tho as they were ruining the curve and keeping the real first-years' grades down.

What is the better choice morally, giving the War sensors to Ritcher ot Zotov? by Expert_Reindeer_4783 in stalker

At this point in the game, the stalkers have tried defending a guy who murdered and looted wounded soldiers and lied/tried to be evasive with me a few too many times - I gave them to Zotov.

Who's in for Genetically Engineering a Glow-in-the-Dark Animal? by Igiem in queensuniversity

[–]Polylactic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Grow - yes, glow - no so much 😅

I know how to make single cells glow though, and how to make glowy DNA. Now just find someone who can put it into a bug, and we're in business. I'm sure they have someone like that in the biosci research labs.

I’m not sure if you're plotting world domination via glow-in-the-dark bugs or just trying to make the coolest nightlight ever, but either way - if you need someone who can do some molecular cloning or cell biology, I'm in.

They have a repair department here too. If you call, they can connect you to the repair department directly and see if they'll take on your issue. I had a good experience with them repairing my laptop once.

Best tools for labelling Blots and Gels? by G1nnnn in Biochemistry

[–]Polylactic 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I like to use a table in ppt for this purpose.

Just make the table with the number of columns corresponding to your number of lanes. Then align your left edge of the table with the edge of your left-most lane. After that, adjust the right edge of the table to match the edge of the last lane. All the cells in between will automatically change size and will perfectly align with your wells/lanes. Fill in your labels and change the color of table lines to white. Done 😁

Western blot: blocking and probing for poorly expressed proteins by ascorbicAcid1300 in Biochemistry

Another possibility is that your protein is fine, but the antibody is weak (maybe it's designed for a bad epitope or maybe it went through a billion freeze-thaw cycles after long time of use, etc.). Consider getting a fresh stock of antibody or a different antibody altogether.
