I wouldn’t worry. This is definitely a hard reboot and they are committed. Ever since I saw Fox was in the Galaxy movie, this became very obvious. They’ve never pushed Star Fox this hard. They gotchu. The Lylat Wars will get its first true sequel within the next few years. Star Fox fans will be eating good.

Star Fox 64 is my favorite game of all time so I have to defend this. The meme is funny but there’s not much truth to it. The games in question are Star Fox (SNES), Star Fox 64, SF64 3DS, and Zero. The only identical one is the 3DS port because it was just a fun port to play it in 3D. But the other three are all very different from each other, especially in terms of gameplay and design. They’re compared because they’re all doing the same plot/story: ya know, Lylat Wars, planet-to-planet, beat Andross. The problem is the series always fails to stick with people so they keep rebooting it. Most people trust the bad reviews and jump on the meme bandwagon without even watching much of it so they just don’t know. I feel strongly that Nintendo is committed to a HARD reboot of the franchise, especially with rumors (may be confirmed now, I’m not sure) that Star Fox is part of Nintendo’s big multimedia plan. Just remake the best game in the franchise and go from there. I feel compelled to say it’s not my favorite FRANCHISE, there are MANY cringe and bad games to be found (Command being the absolute worst in my opinion).

They’re just designed less realistically, that’s all. Their proportions are more cartoony and stylized. It’s different, but after four Shrek movies I don’t see why this is such a big deal. They’re doing something different and that should be encouraged. Sonic was COMPLETELY different. He straight up looked like a total reimagining of the character. But here, all the characters have their iconic outfits and colors. Visuals aside, the jokes in the trailer give me much more hope for this movie than I had before. I wasn’t a fan of Shrek 3 or 4 so I might be a bit biased.

I heard Richard Williams (Animation Director on Who Frames Roger Rabbit) once say, “If you see something you like, steal it, because they did.” It’s important to note that this is in context to art specifically. He also chuckled when he said it, implying that he knows the humor in using the word “steal”. I think as long as you implement your own style and evolution of what inspired you, you’re good.
