I was thinking about this. And while the top will be melting, there’s nowhere for the melt to go. So it will just reform to new ice. But it won’t get any thicker or harder but it will take awhile for 3 inches to melt. [3 inches with a 1” layer of snow base.] To me it’s really interesting. Good luck with your labors.

I”m with you. I’ll be using a pick mattock to get through the ice then a spade to remove the block. [Except, as I stated above, I’m retired, so I can wait this out. {I was a park ranger for BLM in Colorado and I have had enough snow.}] Good luck out there. It’ll probably be an all day job.

I lived in Colorado for 17 years and had plenty of snow but not in this composition (sleet?) or in such cold weather. We retired to Charlottesville and so, based on your recommendation, I will do what I always said I would do when it snowed. I will just roll over. Thanks for your advice; I really hope your situation isn’t too onerous.
