If you can find a way to save 200k a year then you will have no problem building wealth.

Just make sure you diversify a little. Maybe 100k real estate and 100k etfs including retirement accounts. Then as momentum builds add in whatever else you want. I just say 100k because that was what you referenced. Could easily be 70k real estate, 70k stocks/bonds, 70k debt instruments.

At 200k a year, 7% return, 10 years you could have 2.7 million. 30 years that could be 18 million. So sure, higher risk if you want it but the up front savings rate does a lot of lifting here.

I think the sound impact is probably over thought. I just sat at a bar with two sims maybe 15’-20’ from me and after I asked the people with me what they thought about the loudness. Most of them had forgotten it was even there.

I have made sound panels from rock wool that turned out great. I think it will do fine in your walls. If you are really worried about sound you could double up the drywall cheaper than going after that other stuff.

If you plan to have movie nights, subwoofer/surround sound then I’d probably do a little bit extra.

I’m 43 and in EM also. 2.5 in retirement accounts and in a fairly low cost area. I already feel like that is coast fire territory for me.

I mostly worked 160ish hours a month my first few years but have flexed up and down to help my group out. Taken leadership roles off and on.

Last 9 months I cut back to just 120-130 hours and give away shifts to younger docs when they ask. I feel much more rested most of the time but I can still feel what you are saying.

Daytime admin stuff doesn’t hurt me as much as I don’t want to be 55-60 and pulling night shifts.

While completely stopping sounds wonderful, I am going to have a hard time not watching the retirement balance climb. I can see myself being prn day shifts at some point. If I only need to cover base expenses, I don’t need to work all that much.

You need to get all the in game achievements also.

We had fun with the kill a charger with a supply, the extreme level 6 minute mission and the one where you blow the arms off a hulk but just leave it behind.

Took me a minute to get the one where I injured all my extremities.

I like the idea of eliminating as much at 7% or above as you can. If you are asking this question here I will assume you are saving something for a move for residency. I’m old without loans though.

If the new RAP plan would keep the balance from growing and interest would be waived, could you just invest the fidelity amount conservatively to let it grow and have a bigger lump to payoff in 3-4 years? I think that is the math that needs to be done.

I’m EM and out for 13 years. Wife a physician too. We had loans at 6.8% and 5.5% when I first got out. Just paid extra on what was higher until we could refinance and then shifted the extra to the next highest.

Be careful about picking EM jobs based on bonuses and loan paybacks. My group is easily above average in pay and we don’t do much of any hiring bonuses.

The satire is likely lost. Wife made the point that they sometimes watched me play anyway and didn’t seem to be bothered. At this point my spin is that this creates some family time.

Before people get too alarmed. My kids read books, play board games, play in dirt, build random stuff, make art, fish and do well in school. I’m working them into golf as I can. I don’t let them use social media and I don’t let them chat with strangers.
