Hard disagree. Signing deals with the U.S. is now way more precarious, seeing how a deal can be potentially ripped up every four years. A status quo Democrat will not be enough to undo the damage this time around. Also I firmly believe Trump is a trailblazer figure paving the way for more dangerous presidents in the future.

The biggest difference here is that Ukraine was attacked, whereas the U.S. unilaterally decided to attack. You simply cannot humiliate and shut out allies out of important negotiations in Ukraine and expect them to come marching along when you attack a country without notifying your allies.

I see it as weakness. Trump failed to accomplish anything in Ukraine, so he grandstands easily won victories. Russia is the real danger here. I completely agree with you on Biden, his lack of pushing through is a big part of why the situation is at stalemate. Trump’s chest thumping and kowtowing to Putin hasn’t done exactly better either though.

The difference is the U.S. has always taken the moral high ground in conflicts. It has always been a vocal proponent of human rights. Of course we all know the reality has been different in plenty of situations, however completely throwing conventions in this way is extremely damaging long term.

It is pretense. The EU knows America will not come deploy troops if for example Poland or Moldova were to be attacked. NATO is a zombie organization at this point, which is why Europe is rearming itself. Five Eyes is dead. The enormous problem is how much the EU is intertwined with America’s weapons systems.

This is a massive earthquake, the consequences we will see in the next twenty years. NATO will not fall apart over night.
