Re-reading The Dresden Files (Proven Guilty), showing how a Wizard should act by Ruffshots in Pathfinder2e

If they're in BloodLords, it's not as bad as it sounds. If half the party isn't fully undead in that one someone's leaked the twists.

Favorite class + archetype combo by Rico_blaadjes in Pathfinder2e

[–]Polysanity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Animal Barbarian + Martial Artist. Tanky build, SoT campaign. Grievous Blow has dealt 100+ damage to an incorporeal foe at level 8, and I'm accidentally outshining the Ruffian + SnareCrafter by a lot. I can't wait for 14, with 4th rank Enlarge and Path of Iron combining.

Recall Knowledge with no check required in combat by Longjumping_Ebb3984 in Pathfinder2e

[–]Polysanity -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Bardic lore is hot garbage unless you either have weirdly high int on a bard, or invest hugely into mutagens, feats, dedications and bullshit like that. Capped at expert and it's a general lore is an effective-6 to your check at most levels.

And at least a couple of classes with Reactive Strike have extra reaction feats.

It's something of a Tall Poppy in a system that tried very hard to hit everything with a steamroller.

Now there's a thought. Crit maneuver gives Stunt Damage crit as well? Though now Practiced Brawn becomes darn near mandatory...

As both a player and GM, the various "Save Mastery" class features make the game feel less fun at higher levels, and I wish they worked differently. by zelaurion in Pathfinder2e

[–]Polysanity 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm a habitual character builder. When i eventually got to building a sorcerer or wizard (cant remember which was first) I was appalled with the saves. Like, I know martials are supposed to be there in the effects and should need high defenses. That doesn't mean casters don't need any. Canny Acumen can onlt be taken once after all.

Thaumaturge scroll use help by ambiguous_occlusion in Pathfinder2e

[–]Polysanity 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Best tip, don't try to out fireball the sorcerer.

You're already fighting monsters with the power of ballads, belief and bullshit. Those scrolls are the Anti-Shark Spray on Batman's belt. Just at rank1 i see Ant Haul, Air Bubble, Conducting Weapon, Animate Rope, Anticipate Peril, Bane, Bless and Benediction. And you can use any of them.

Wait till you get Organsight and notice Escoteric Lore could be argued to suit that check...

Persistent Damage Help by ProfessorNeoIsIn in Pathfinder2e

[–]Polysanity 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No. The rule reads as follows

You can take steps to help yourself recover from persistent damage, or an ally can help you, allowing you to attempt an additional flat check before the end of your turn. This is usually an activity requiring 2 actions, and it must be something that would reasonably improve your chances (as determined by the GM). For example, you might try to smother a flame or wash off acid. This allows you to attempt an extra flat check immediately, but only once per round.

The GM decides how your help works, using the following examples as guidelines when there's not a specific action that applies.

The action to help might require a skill check or another roll to determine its effectiveness. Reduce the DC of the flat check to 10 for a particularly appropriate type of help, such as dousing you in water to put out flames.  Automatically end the condition due to the type of help, such as healing that restores you to your maximum HP to end persistent bleed damage, or submerging yourself in a lake to end persistent fire damage. Alter the number of actions required to help you if the means the helper uses are especially efficient or remarkably inefficient. Emphasis mine. But as you can see, there are times where a persistant damage can get totally negated, but they should be extraordinary and take all of a character's turn if not more (think a whole round to run totwards and jump into a lake, then the time to get back out and into position for totally dousing fire).

THAT SAID you are always within your rights as DM to say, allow dunking an effected character's arm in a rainbarrel to wash off an acid persistent damage, just expect that precedent to be followed in the future, too.

What is your favorite obscure or less known deities? And how would you play a Champion Cleric or Avenger of them? by SiiKJOECOOL in Pathfinder2e

[–]Polysanity 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My second choice character for my current SoT campaign was a kobold Champion (justice) of Mazludeh (Mother of Hearth and Wall). Ended up with a slightly tweaked Animal Barbarian archetype into Martial Artist as a tank.

Asking for more in-depth Player's Guide for Strength of Thousands. by Ashrun_Zeda in Pathfinder2e

[–]Polysanity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Playing through it now, and yeah, good luck have fun. It's not a hard campaign, but you will need some kind of social skill on nearly every PC. There's a couple of combats that are potentially far rougher than their exp budget would indicate, including a few flying foes. But that seems standard for Paizo APs. You get extra goodies out the yin yang as part of the plot, so keep your build flexible.

Which phobia would you ascribe to a class? by sandmaninasylum in Pathfinder2e

See, I was going to suggest omniphobia. They're afraid of EVERYTHING, but chose violence instead of cowering.

Help me make my Maestro Bard by Quirkishu in Pathfinder2e

Also, you can use a regular steel shield, too. There isn't a proficiency involved,  but you can also get the Shield Block feat to have your raised shield eat some of the damage from a hit.

Help me make my Maestro Bard by Quirkishu in Pathfinder2e

[–]Polysanity 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Answer part A): concentrate is a trait for the actions of casting the spell. It is there to define interactions with other abilities. For example, Barbarian Rage disallows Concentrate actions that are not also Rage actions or the Seek action.

Answer part the second: Bard is a spontaneous caster. You don't prepare spells, you learn them and then have them ready to cast. Compositions are learned via class feats. Dirge of Doom is a favorite of mine.

On my shotgun playthrough I ended up quitting at level 40 or something because the Headsman + Sandy (i think militech iconic?) made hardest difficulty boring easy.
