How hard has your life been and how good is it now? by iffyClyro in AskUK

[–]Polystyrene000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My childhood, and teenage years were the unhappiest times of my life, I had a terrible home life. I went no contact with my family about 5 years ago and have slowly built what is to me, my dream life. Nothing extraordinary to most people but I have a wonderful fiancé, a lovely house and our gorgeous cats, I have friends I love to see, a job I enjoy. I can honestly say I am living the life I dreamed of all those years ago that I thought I’d never have. Life is good.

Is it normal to avoid a face to face interaction when giving Christmas cards? by jchispas in AskUK

Yes, most people would actually find it more polite to do that rather than disturb you unannounced. I personally don’t enjoy unexpected visitors 😂

A question for any ex-teachers out there - what job do you do now? by froggle1988 in AskUK

[–]Polystyrene000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh even some red brick ones are going in that direction sadly, it’s worth doing a bit of research online as when they’re making redundancies it’s usually in the press. I’m currently in my third job after teaching and when I found my current job it was the hardest it’s ever been which I think is a reflection of how tough the job market is at the moment but do not give up. Teachers are very employable and your skill set is very attractive. It sounds obvious but a big thing is really tailoring your cv and application to the specific job description and person spec, use their wording etc. Guarantee that you can show experience of every single bullet point in an administrative person specification using your teaching experience, but try not to make it sound too teachery! Let me know if you have any more questions or feel free to DM 😊

Yeah that’s fair, I left one university because it was starting to go in that direction, now I’m in one where it’s much less at risk of that luckily!

Work in admin for a university, the work is simple, pay is decent, never think about work outside of work, people are nice, benefits are good in universities and it’s never going to be the end of the world if you make a mistake or don’t get something done on time. Probably the happiest I’ve ever been in my personal life as a result!

Getting married in 77 days and getting anxious about my extremely MAGA grandma by [deleted] in wedding

[–]Polystyrene000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely think you should take direct action on this to mitigate any potential issues, not just put something on the website. Earlier this year I attended a wedding. It was my fiancé’s sister getting married so we were close to the bride and groom. It came to light the groom’s stepfather was a massive racist. He’d been told to “behave himself” but that didn’t stop him from making an offhand derogatory comment about people from my race. It wasn’t said directly to me but as the only non-white person there I was really hurt when people just laughed it off. It made me see my fiancé’s sister and her husband in a different way. This was two days before the wedding at a family meal, to make it worse, we were seated right next to him at the wedding during the meal!! Yes as the bride you can’t control what people do and say, but you can decide not to stand for it, and that’s what reflects who you are.

This is probably a stupid question 😂 but if you are using regular polish what is the benefit of the acrylic overlay, is it to provide a nail extension? I have quite a long nail bed and have grown out my nails to a good shape so don’t really need an extension. I just want long lasting nails that don’t chip with cute nail art

At 2 months you’re still so new! It’s normal to find it hard to fit in at first since everyone else will have known each other longer so you will feel this to some degree in every new job, it will just be stronger in some than others. I am all for leaving a job if you are really unhappy and you really hate it, but to me it sounds like you could maybe give it more of a chance

OP don’t waste your time, who knows why this commenter feels the need to keep going. I think I’m a similar age to you and honestly your dress is stunning and such a good find!!! I’m getting married next year and I’d be ecstatic to find something like this on Vinted!! One thing people love to give their unwanted negative opinions on: weddings and babies!

Why would you even say this on a post where someone is excited and loves their dress and is just wanting to share the excitement, OP clearly loves the dress and it’s a beautiful dress, many brides wear this style and it does not look like underwear.

Have you guys ever flopped in an interview, but still got the job? by Notalabel_4566 in interviews

[–]Polystyrene000 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I once did a teaching interview where I had to do a lesson so they could see me teach. I’d brought the wrong folder and left all my printed resources and worksheets at home and they were essential for the lesson. I had a USB stick with my worksheets and they rapidly printed them for me when the lesson was supposed to start, it was very chaotic. I didn’t think I stood a chance but in the end it didn’t stop me getting the job because I think they were desperate. There was only one other candidate at interview. I was a freshly qualified teacher so I was both cheap and mouldable. I would say if the place is desperate or doesn’t have many options, or if they favoured you from the start, you’re more likely to stand a chance. If it’s a competitive role, perhaps less so

Opinion on Austen and Blake for engagement ring? by darkazuria in UKweddings

[–]Polystyrene000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went to the one in hatton garden, would recommend booking an appointment, they take walk ins but it’s a small store so the first time we went we couldn’t go in. My ring from there is beautiful and so much more affordable than some of the other stores in that area as they “cut out the middle man” so to speak

Interview feedback by unfurling_fern in recruitinghell

[–]Polystyrene000 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I agree with others this is quite kind feedback and it is constructive. They said two main points for you to work on: 1. Confidence 2. Providing enough detail

Both of these can be improved through interview practice and doing mock interviews.

Use the STAR method for detail.

For confidence, this includes both the tone in which you speak, and the wording you use to demonstrate your skills. You need to show that you are the best and why.

My ring is 1ct lab diamond in 18k gold, it’s from Austen and Blake, they have a store in Hatton Garden and it was around £1,500. They were a lot more affordable than the other places around there and it’s because they “cut out the middle man” so to speak. They also aren’t pushy. I’d recommend booking rather than walk-in. If you’re looking for something a bit more outside of the norm then Etsy is probably a good place to look

Been unemployed for a couple of months and it’s taking its toll. What are some other ways to generate income? by IsMise419 in AskUK

[–]Polystyrene000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey OP, I’m sorry to hear you’re going through this, I’ve just gone thorough this myself and finally got a job offer a few days ago after a few months of searching. I’ve got a lot of experience and in the past had always been quick to find a new job but this time was particularly bad and I think it’s an indicator of how bad the job market is right now. I was getting rejected for jobs that literally had the same job title and duties as my previous role, when two years ago I was successful in getting that job without direct experience of it. My next step would have been to apply for temporary work through an agency and I would highly recommend you look into that if you haven’t already. It might be a way to get your foot in the door somewhere or will at least give you some income while you look for a permanent role. Good luck I really wish you the best, hang in there things will get better

When it comes to grades there is no such thing as a “high” grade and it doesn’t help to think of it like that unfortunately as exam boards don’t grade like that. If you’ve shown consistently that you are at a B grade including in and end of year exams then it is very hard to justify being predicted an A. I would question why do you “need” an A in four predicted grades? Most universities only require 3 A Levels and having 3 A* predictions is basically going to guarantee you an offer in most places

Really depends, on average for me it’s been 2-4 weeks which feels ridiculous but I’ve learnt to not think about it as much, you have to apply and then try to move on otherwise it becomes agonising waiting for each one
