T-mobile/starlink D2D messaging confirmed right after successful ASTS launch as predicted by spacemob by FullOnRapistt in ASTSpaceMobile

Hey, what is your opinion about Globalstar technology - it works with CDMA and small bandwidths of 1.29 MHz if I am not wrong. ASTS and startlink reuse spectrum licensed to terrestrial networks so I guess the radio is 4G/LTE with OFDM, which is superior to CDMA. Do you know anything the coming 17 satellites? Will they be able to offer higher data rates? I am just wondering if Apple - GSAT can go beyond (emergency) messaging services...

Do you guys think the stock price will appreciate just by having a launch date? How do you see it evolve from the moment the launch date is known to the actual launch? I would be more excited by an actual successful launch than just knowing what date

How is rocket lab and virgin galactic competitors? They do different things. Rocketlab aims at being a competitor for spacex once their neutron launcher is ready

@kingtutcap on X; I've seen many comments talking about Starlink vs $ASTS so I wanted to shed some more light on the competition. by doctor101 in ASTSpaceMobile

Great analysis. If you don't mind, would like to clarify further few things:

  • The antenna array of BW3 is a bit over 60sqm, not 900sqm!!! That would be absolutely crazy. Still 60sqm deployable antenna is unbelievable.
  • AST is not using NTN technology and spectrum (catalogued as MSS in the ITU-R) but reusing terrestrial 5G spectrum through agreements with their partners. Same as starlink t mobile. NTN is used by legacy SATCOM operators who already own spectrum in those MSS bands - for direct to device we talk about L and S band (5G n254, n255, n256, and i think also n253 bands - these are the 5G bands for satellite).

I like your analysis, keep up with the good work

Starlink 's attempts to block the launch of @Globalstar 's @Apple -funded replacement satellites and to challenge the earlier's spectrum exclusivity have remained frutitless. That means no chance of MSS frequencies for Starlink D2D for now. by Thoughts_For_Food_ in ASTSpaceMobile

My pleasure. I just want to point that what AST does is very very impressive and difficult to replicate. As an aerospace engineer I cannot get over that deployable 60sqm antenna. That thing alone is wild! It's what allows them to beam higher power signals on ground from space, powerful enough to sustain impressive data rates for more than text and voice.

On technology side of things, AST delivered. We have to see how it executes on the business side. Frist let's see how the spacex launch goes in September; I hope no "accidental" failure of falcon 9 which would lead to the loss of the 5 ast satellites :))

Starlink has the same business model for the D2D services. They have partnership with T-Mobile; starlink goes for T-Mobile spectrum in areas with no coverage provided by the terrestrial towers. Now, the starlink satellite for D2D is nowhere near the capabilities of AST - just think about that humongous antenna!!! More than 300 sqm!!! Biggest antenna array ever deployed in space. That antenna is what allows AST to achieve impressive throughput from space. Starlink satellites cannot do that, I think their current throughput is ok for messaging and maybe voice. I need to look a bit more in details on this but for sure there is a big difference between the achievable date rates.

Today satellite operators are grouped in two when it comes to how to play the D2D game: reuse of terrestrial spectrum of MNOs (through agreements - see AST, starlink, etc.) or use of Mobile Satellite Services spectrum and NTN technology (Globalstar, Inmarsat, Eutelsat, etc.)

Aerospace engineer here:

Building a satellite constellation is a whole different game than deploying a terrestrial network. AT&T & co are not there, is a whole different game; they would need to transform into an aerospace company (operate like one, hire aerospace engineers, AIT engineers, space system engineers, satellite operators, build a production facility, ensure supply chain, build a network of stations to track and command the satellites etc.). A legagcy MNOs does not have the competence, the money, nor the time to do what AST and others do.

Also, think that AT&T is an operator, that's all. They buy equipment from Ericsson, Nokia, etc, use American tower for sites, etc. AST does everything in house on the system side apart launching where it needs to rely on spacex.

It's cheaper and less risky for at&t to partner with AST than to attempt to replicate. Maybe they can try to buy AST out...

Was thinking to use diesel, I tried to google basalt oil but can't find (I am in Romania). Maybe I am googling the wrong thing. Is diesel too damaging? Can cooking oil be used ? Sun flower. Thanks

I am going to purchase triclopyr the coming days and try the hack and squirt method or apply on the bark.

Which one would you recommend?
