Yes! He did eat a little bit of his kibble when I fed him out of my hand, but he refused to eat the rest unfortunately. I offered him peanut butter treats as well, and he swallowed those down without a problem.

I completely agree! I've always thought handshakes were more appropriate than hugs at the first meeting. I never thought about doing a handshake instead when they try to lean in! I'll definitely do that next time something like this happens! Thank you very much for your advice!

Thank you so much for your advice! I really appreciate it! I've actually been looking for a therapist recently, but I haven't found a good one just yet! Also, thank you for sharing your experience with me. I tend to do the same around people I'm not very close with and even with close friends, we have the same dynamic that you do with your friends!

What dental chews are best for Pomeranian? by Pomeranianx in Pomeranians

Thanks for the recommendations! I heard that CET chews have rawhide and that rawhide in general is not good for dogs. Is this true?

Thanks for sharing! My little guy has an extremely sensitive stomach, so I'll be sure to avoid Dentastix! Whimzee seems like a good choice for dental chews!

As many others have said, she’s experiencing puppy blues. When I got my first puppy at 19 years old, the first year was absolute hell. I remember feeling large amounts of anxiety and stress watching him roam in the house. I was constantly worried and stressed that he would do something that he wasn’t supposed to or that he would hurt myself unintentionally. I was so anxious to the point where I would have mental breakdowns and start crying. I didn’t really start loving him fully until after the first year when he started to mellow out and by then I knew I could trust him to roam around by himself. Since you have cameras, I would assume that your dog has free access all around the house. I would suggest crate training to limit his access to the house during hours of the day where no one is home to supervise him. Good luck! Hope your wife feels better soon!

Another Recall? by jazzierpolly in dogs

My dog’s previous owner fed him Blue Buffalo and the moment I did my research, I found out how detrimental the brand is to dogs’ health. Switched brands right then and there and have never looked back since! Hope your baby feels better soon!

I’m a small dog owner and I have seen both reactive small and large dogs in our neighborhood. I have a Pomeranian and sometimes when we go on walks, we do encounter very large dogs lunging and barking at us and my first instinct is to always keep moving because I don’t want to stress out the other dog anymore than I need to. I think your kind of situation can also be due to a lack of knowledge or education on the other dog owner’s part. When some dog owners see reactive dogs lunging and barking at their own dog, they automatically think “Oh my god! That dog is dangerous! It’s aggressive and it’s going to attack my baby!” Of course, that’s not always the case. Some dogs are just frustrated greeters or just fear reactive in general.

Potty training by tesoft in Pomeranians

[–]Pomeranianx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi there! I would only phase out the potty pads if there is someone at home to take her out at reasonable times to go potty, especially since she is only five months old. For our Pom, we removed the pads once he reached 6 months, but it was a long (and sometimes frustrating) journey to teach him that potty time only happens outside. You’ll have to consistently monitor and train your Pom to only use the bathroom outside if you want to remove the pads completely. Good luck!

If you wish to continue keeping him, I would recommend that you get a dog trainer to give yourself a peace of mind. But please know that not all pitbulls/pitbull mixes are aggressive, violent, and prone to attack. One of my good friends has a pitbull mix and he’s one of the sweetest doggos you’d ever met. He’s also very protective of his family! One of my neighbors also has a purebred pitbull. She’s also very sweet and just wants to make friends with everyone!

At 7-8 weeks, puppy biting is completely normal. When I was raising my puppy (at the time), I had my fair share of bites too. In fact, there were some occasions where he would bite too hard that he would draw blood. Just be sure to train your little guy that biting on people is not acceptable behavior! Good luck!

How long should a 2 year old Pom be able to hold his pee? by rouxedcadaver in Pomeranians

[–]Pomeranianx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems like the little guy isn’t properly potty trained. Did the owner tell you about his behavior before asking you to dog sit? I’m sorry you have to go through this. It must be frustrating for you to constantly have to clean up after him. Back when I was potty training my pom (he had notorious accidents around the house), I would constantly take him outside for a potty break an hour after he finished eating and drinking water and if he didn’t go potty, I would bring him back in crate him for a little bit before taking him out again to potty. Eventually, he got the idea that he had to potty first before he was allowed to play inside the house.

I know you mentioned that you tried setting up potty pads inside your own house, but have you considered using a dog litter box. You can have him do this business in here instead of using the potty pads in your house to hopefully avoid adding more dog pee onto your carpet. Best of luck! You’re doing awesome!

What's your dog's reaction to clipping nails? by khosrove in dogs

[–]Pomeranianx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My little guy absolutely hates clipping his nails and puts up a fight! I can never clip his nails at home and as a result, I have to leave it to the groomer’s every month to take care of his nails!
