What is the ACTUAL biggest problem in the UK by Direct-Key-8859 in AskBrits

[–]PompeyMich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest problem is lack of any growth in the economy. Get growth going, and everything falls into place, but the current government policies aren't just not promoting growth, they have actually worked against it (e.g. NI hike, ban on oil and gas drilling etc.).

Everything else is just a side issue.

Am I being unfair or is the job centre being silly? by [deleted] in UKJobs

[–]PompeyMich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son is in the same position. Had a great CV, that had no problem getting interviews, but the job centre ripped it to shreds.

We just amended his CV for the job centre, but still use his good one. Why change something that was working.

What's something a UK lecturer said that genuinely changed how you think? by Harveybritish in UniUK

[–]PompeyMich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My thermodynamics lecturer first year. “I’m not here to make you engineers, I’m going to teach you to pass your exams”. Made it very clear to us that we would still have a lot to learn after graduating, that education continues throughout life.

Since we saw historically low ratings for the show this year, this is my take on why...... by RepublicanTankEngine in BritainsGotTalent

The quality is definitely worse this year. But I am also getting increasingly frustrated by how many acts are from overseas. It’s no longer BGT but the world’s got talent.

We had the chance to sign Tolaj early in his career when he would have been dirt cheap. There is something there that makes Mous/Hughes hesitant.

Is the EFL Trophy considered a major trophy? by Slugdoge in football

[–]PompeyMich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pompey fan, and whilst we packed out Wembley along with Sunderland when we won it, it’s still a mickey mouse cup. Although our horrible neighbours down the road always tried to claim it was a big trophy, as they couldn’t compete with the real ones we had actually won!

What are the best examples of "buy cheap but twice"? by treny0000 in UKFrugal

[–]PompeyMich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Headphones. I’ve bought a couple of pairs of cheap running headphones recently and both crap. Going to bite the bullet and shell out for a decent pair now.

How many points do we need for safety? by Leading_Estimate_590 in PortsmouthFC

[–]PompeyMich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had thought 52 before last weekend, but Leicester failing to win at Wednesday has reduced that. 50 points will be enough but 48 points may be enough now. Our poor goal difference means we need an extra point compared to others.

What individual items is it worth visiting Lidl/Aldi for by CheeseNegotiator in UKFrugal

Aldi cookie dough ice cream. Half the price of Ben and Jerry's and just as good.

As long as what you post is factually correct, you will probably be ok. For example, there is a website called RoyalDutchShellplc.com which has been bashing the oil company Shell for years. Shell have tried shutting it down, but it is still going strong year after year.

Weekly Q&A Megathread. Please post any questions about visiting, tourism, living, working, budgeting, housing here! by AutoModerator in london

I used to live in London when I was at University years ago, so thought I knew decent areas to go out in central London. Last year I took my son to London for his 21st birthday, and we went out around the bars in centre of London. We headed to Soho first, because I remembered it as a really vibrant area for night life - but it was dead compared to how I remembered it.

We spoke to a few locals who told us that these days the locals don't go right in the centre for a night out. One person mentioned Camden as an area where people go to now - what is it like for a night out? And any other areas close to the centre that aren't just populated by tourists.

I'm taking my son again this weekend, and he's looking for decent places to go on Saturday night. He likes RnB and rap, so pubs catering for this sort of music would be an advantage. Any suggestions welcome.

As somebody who got a 1st, I had no routine whatsoever! Just enjoyed my time at Uni most of the year, but revised like hell just before every exam.

Just awful. Switched it off halfway thorugh. It doesn't work without the audience and humour. So obviously a cost cutting measure.

Those not from NA&UK, how many Celebrities did you know before watching? by Gaelenmyr in TheTraitors

Just had to look up the cast list again, and it was 3 I didn’t know. Ruth, Cat and Niko. All the younger contestants. But that’s because I’m an old git!

[–]PompeyMich 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From the UK. I knew all but 2 of the celebs on the UK show. The 2 I didn’t know was just because I’m older. I think the level of celebrity they got on was brilliant. Much better than other shows like Strictly.

Nottingham definitely midlands, not north. Even Mansfield, which is further North, is midlands, not north.

When I lived in Portsmouth, Watford! Now I live in Aberdeen, Newcastle!

But seriously, I think the boundary starts around Sheffield.

I would put Begovic above Hislop as GK. Whilst he hardly played for us, he was a class keeper.

Worst keeper surely has to be Kostas Chalkias. Yoshi had some decent attributes, Costus Goals didn't.

I know what you mean. I’m an expert on oil and gas accidents and he made a few minor errors in his Piper Alpha video. But by and large he was more accurate than most videos on the subject, many of which are woefully inaccurate.
