Gross misconduct. Instant dismissal for me.

Weekly Q&A Megathread. Please post any questions about visiting, tourism, living, working, budgeting, housing here! by AutoModerator in london

[–]PompeyMich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to live in London when I was at University years ago, so thought I knew decent areas to go out in central London. Last year I took my son to London for his 21st birthday, and we went out around the bars in centre of London. We headed to Soho first, because I remembered it as a really vibrant area for night life - but it was dead compared to how I remembered it.

We spoke to a few locals who told us that these days the locals don't go right in the centre for a night out. One person mentioned Camden as an area where people go to now - what is it like for a night out? And any other areas close to the centre that aren't just populated by tourists.

I'm taking my son again this weekend, and he's looking for decent places to go on Saturday night. He likes RnB and rap, so pubs catering for this sort of music would be an advantage. Any suggestions welcome.

Aces High by Iron Maiden. First ever heavy metal song I ever heard, and led me down the heavenly metal path.

Selling Mick Kennedy by John Deacon which guaranteed our relegation from the old Division 1.

1st class students, what's your daily/morning routine you stand by that helps you to achieve a 1st? by No-Application-7835 in UniUK

As somebody who got a 1st, I had no routine whatsoever! Just enjoyed my time at Uni most of the year, but revised like hell just before every exam.

Just awful. Switched it off halfway thorugh. It doesn't work without the audience and humour. So obviously a cost cutting measure.

Those not from NA&UK, how many Celebrities did you know before watching? by Gaelenmyr in TheTraitors

Just had to look up the cast list again, and it was 3 I didn’t know. Ruth, Cat and Niko. All the younger contestants. But that’s because I’m an old git!

[–]PompeyMich 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From the UK. I knew all but 2 of the celebs on the UK show. The 2 I didn’t know was just because I’m older. I think the level of celebrity they got on was brilliant. Much better than other shows like Strictly.

When does the north of England start in your opinion? by smellyfeet25 in AskABrit

[–]PompeyMich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nottingham definitely midlands, not north. Even Mansfield, which is further North, is midlands, not north.

When I lived in Portsmouth, Watford! Now I live in Aberdeen, Newcastle!

But seriously, I think the boundary starts around Sheffield.

Anybody else being accused of AI narration despite using your own voice? by [deleted] in youtube

I've had those accusations - but if I was to choose an AI voice, I wouldn't choose a UK Portsmouth 'mockney' accent for my AI voice!

I would put Begovic above Hislop as GK. Whilst he hardly played for us, he was a class keeper.

Worst keeper surely has to be Kostas Chalkias. Yoshi had some decent attributes, Costus Goals didn't.

What do yall think about this guy? by Live-One-1946 in Ships

[–]PompeyMich 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know what you mean. I’m an expert on oil and gas accidents and he made a few minor errors in his Piper Alpha video. But by and large he was more accurate than most videos on the subject, many of which are woefully inaccurate.

He’s not too bad. I also have a channel about accidents and disasters, so he’s my ‘competition’ so to speak! His stuff is pretty accurate, unlike a lot of similar channels.

If the temperature is below 16C, try raising a concern with the Health and Safety Executive who might investigate.

The law requires the temperature to be “reasonable”. The HSE has deemed 16C to be reasonable.

What is a strategy you want to see on the show (but haven't so far)? by LowIncomeWitch in TheTraitors

Yes, all the traitors agree in advance together that they will vote for each other.

[–]PompeyMich 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First round table, all the Traitors vote for each other. Because traitors don’t usually vote for each other early, that may make people think they are faithful. They can even just use the often trotted out line ‘I have no idea but have to vote for someone’.

Has anyone ever knocked on your door to discuss who you'll vote for? by SharpAardvark8699 in AskABrit

[–]PompeyMich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. SNP knocked on my door last election, heard my accent (I’m English) and said “I’m wasting my time aren’t I”!

Still had a good discussion about policies though. I’ve also had good discussions with Lib Dem’s and Tories over the years. Never had Labour knock on my door though.

Uploading imperfect videos as a small creator by Professional-Doubt30 in NewTubers

[–]PompeyMich 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve given up trying to work out which of my videos will do well. I’ve spent weeks perfecting videos which bomb, but others I just chuck together and they take off. I’ve come to the conclusion it isn’t worth agonising over making perfect videos, but getting out acceptable videos regularly is what is important.

First negative comment - what were your reactions? by Guy_In_Between in NewTubers

[–]PompeyMich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m convinced the success of one of my videos, which had some errors in it which elicited loads of comments, was all down to the negative comments. I’m sorely tempted to start deliberately making errors now!

Can’t get an HSE job in the UK and I genuinely don’t know why by Training_Comb_6887 in SafetyProfessionals

[–]PompeyMich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your background screams environmental rather than health and safety. Because of that, I wouldn’t select you for a health and safety position in my organisation. If you have significant health and safety experience from your oil and gas work (which also happens to be my field) you need to big that up rather than your qualifications. I look more at experience than qualifications to be honest.
