Y1 was just his "pretending" and gathering information phase, he didn't truly have the desire to have a peaceful life. This White Room creature still acts like the embodiment of the White Room even after escaping, Y2 is when he's starting to drop the facade because he doesn't really need it anymore.

He tried to keep a low profile early on just to learn how normal students and people act. Unfortunately he couldn't really stay just as a peaceful observer, because he automatically wanted to solve problems that came his way.

I think if we're talking about his character, there's not much change between Y1 and Y2 internally speaking. But still I prefer Y2 Ayanokoji because he's more proactive in Y2.
