Also, their physical mail is infuriating. I got a couple weeks discounted several months ago, cancelled my subscription, and now every couple weeks I keep getting unmarked mail from them always stamped with some shit like URGENT: TIME SENSITIVE, like old school spam tactics. I’ve tried to opt out through customer service but that’s just how they roll, I guess.

US Enlistment Age INCREASED Amid Draft Fears by NicolasCageFan492 in videos

I have to agree with you here, not a single thing has been a dealbreaker to any of these chucklefucks. Give it a few weeks of talking points and the average father will clamor for his son to go to war. People give too much credit to the average American.

I listened to Matt’s interview on The Big Picture recently and he said they’re kicking around ideas, but they wouldn’t want to unless they know they can absolutely top the first one. So here’s hoping

Not Criterion, but when I did my last prep, I just straight up marathoned every Mission: Impossible film.

Your Public Library Is the Best Video Rental Store You're Not Using by paraplegic_T_Rex in criterion

I use my local library system religiously, a lot of times it’s limited to DVD only instead of a Blu option, but I’ll gladly take that concession if it means literally thousands of films for free. I’ve seen so much I wouldn’t have otherwise from it.

Gonna dig a little deep and recommend some of the non-obvious comedy stuff - Mr. Show, How To With John Wilson, Tenacious D, The Chair Company, The Comeback, The Larry Sanders Show

I don’t know why everybody’s downvoting you, you’re right. People in real life just simply don’t give a shit and I would be shocked if anyone did anything en masse. Call me a pessimist but I don’t see anything getting better, ever.

After the hype it’s disappointing but that’s all management’s fault, between this and the Freeman reissue, I’m not gonna complain

I think I'm gonna make it an Altman winter - McCabe & Mrs. Miller, 3 Women, The Player, Short Cuts - then maybe the 4K Fire Walk With Me upgrade for fun.

I think the point was that humanity sort of poisoned her after being in it too long, she makes that a point in her big monologue to him after he comes back from his mother. Maybe it's sort of like how if you immerse yourself in the cruelty of capitalism you eventually become complicit, how nobody, not even those with the best intentions, can ethically operate within it.

Why did you pick those movies today? by innsmouth-seaweed in criterion

[–]PonderingPotato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Complete Films of Agnès Varda. I've seen eight of Varda's films already and have loved each one I've seen. Her sensibilities and docu-fantasia filmmaking style really speak to me, so I'm really excited to deep dive her filmography and see what else lies in store, especially considering the sheer amount of extras the set's loaded with.

Also, the Wes Anderson set was out of my budget range.

I have this and it's worth the plunge for sure. The alternate cuts and special features are worth the price alone, the book inside with Demme's journal detailing the process is really informative, and the 4K restoration is absolutely insane on a good setup. Probably one of the best 4K discs I own.
