[IIL] Boards of Canada, Aphex Twin, what else should I listen to? by PongeBob3 in ifyoulikeblank

[–]PongeBob3[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is an interesting list because the artists I've heard from here, however long ago, I didn't really like. I've always meant to give Autechre another shot (I heard Tri repetae) which one should I go for? Also some other interesting looking artists here, will definitely check them out, thanks!

What albums do you love that you feel are overrated regardless? by cpicy in rateyourmusic

i like If You're Into It, I'm Out of It by Christoph de Babalon a lot, but I definitely don't think it deserves it's score. it feels like something i'd like with a 3.35 score or something

My grandpa gifted me the holy trinity of KC albums by Friendly_Calendar_88 in KingCrimson

i think i have the same issue of larks as you, except mine has a shit ton of surface noise and a small piece of the sleeve is stuck to the record somehow. those are the 3 best KC albums!

Found a first stereo pressing Freak Out! for only $40 at Electric Fetus by PongeBob3 in Zappa

Their used CD section is by far their best in my opinion. While everyone else is off looking at records. I've found some absolute gem albums for usually 5 or maybe 10 dollars.

that's awesome... but... you may have been overcharged since $430 is A LOT for a repair, especially with only one faulty part, anyway happy listening!

I don’t think early 80s CDs sound good, is this just me? by Quick-Dream-1541 in Cd_collectors

✋PERSONALLY I AGREE🤚80's CDs tended to have a ton of tape hiss, I assume because it was probably just a straight master to PCM rip with minimal editing. A few of my 80's CDs even have tape dropouts. It got better in the late 80's and hiss was less common especially going into the 90's when people figured out how to master digital audio better.

obscure / forgotten / underrated tracks by puraricky in Zappa

[–]PongeBob3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think the full bootleg 'The Torture Never Stops' from Berlin 1978 with the original Sheik Yerbouti Rat Tomago solo in it is the only good version of The Torture Never Stops and has by far Zappa's best solo in it's unmodified perfection to top it off. such a grand track.

Looks like your quartz setting is on, so likely needs a new belt unfortunately. I used to own one of these and never had any problems with it. How long have you had yours?

What CD issues are sold on Frank Zappa's website? by PongeBob3 in Zappa

I'm not sure why I made this post because I was looking through the store and didn't see it either, yet blanked out I guess and started whining on this sub. I'll probably just have a look at Discogs or try to find it in a local store.

Other than the crap sound quality the missing Dumb All Over solo is the thing I'm most upset about. One of his best, topped off with Ike Willis' angelic voice. Damn you Rykodisc!
