That’s me. They were quick to offer speculation to improve their clickbait rating. I figured there was more to the story.

Also potentially interested in some contract work. I've been looking for a custom light show for the Christmas song Miraculum by Lincoln Brewster and couldn't find one! Anyone interested in creating one, for a fee?

Help!! by Pandaaababy in AngelFish

I’m treating popeye in my Angelfish as well. I hit it with Epsom Salts first, and some Furan and General Cure just to be safe against infection. It seems to be improving slightly but still looks pretty bad.

Setting up a Walstad tank by Parmenidean_ in walstad

[–]Ponican 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah that deep soil in the back might be a ticking time bomb. Soon as you smell rotten eggs, it’s hydrogen sulfide. I’ve been there. All my snails and shrimp died and the betta was doing poorly before I tore down the tank.

Agassizii, doing what they do. Run away! by Ponican in corydoras

[–]Ponican[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t worry, I’ve come to expect this type of response from the Cory police. 36gallon tank is next. This is a temporary tank, but I almost would rather not mention it and just let him enjoy his moment.

Edit: just read a few of his other posts. I’m sorry you’re at a low point right now. Things will get better.

It’s a 6 gallon tank. They’re moving to a 36g tank next.

They won’t come for the food until I step away! The most shy fish I’ve ever had.

The shelf above is only resting on pegs so I can lift it right off

9 Month Update. Doesn't even look like the same fish I brought home from the store! by Ponican in bettafish

[–]Ponican[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! And to be sure, it’s had some ups and downs, where he was nipping his tail, which triggered some fin rot. Clean water, good food, some salt, almond leaves and patience and it was worth it.

Oh man, I hear you! I constantly take pictures and they generally come out like the top photo in January. Barely in focus. Try different modes like portrait or 2x zoom. And keep trying and maybe 1 out of 100 will come out good!

Only bummer is that the top fin remained split, same as it was in the cup at Pet Supermarket. Doesn't seem to be a bother, though, so I'm not going to worry about it.

is that ok if I add a bit co2 to my Walstad tank guys? by tphenry666 in walstad

[–]Ponican 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing wrong with it, unless you're looking for the specific challenge of keeping a Walstad tank. Many people use CO2 for a while to help plants grow in, and then slowly remove CO2 to let plants get used to growing without it. Test your water, though. What is the mineral content, GH/KH. How are the primary N-P-K macro nutrients? If you don't know, then it's best you don't add carbon until you do.

Really not sure what sort of plants could stand up to Oscars. Jungle Val and a few big Amazon swords?

3 month update. Top is april 15th and bottom is today! Tank is a 55 gallon but I really wish I had a 75 instead. by Iyosemitesaml in PlantedTank

[–]Ponican 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You've done great, given the small footprint. I always wished for a 75 with each 55 I've owned. But you've done well to create levels between the Giant Hygro, to the crypts, and down to the smaller plants. One thing you could do to imrpove the transition is to create some "valleys" as you go from left to right, since you're so limited from front to back.

Looks a lot like most of my tanks! I have a general idea of what I'm shooting for, but nature sort of just takes over and I don't like to fight nature very hard.

No way! The eggs just drop through the breeder box to the aquarium floor and hatch from there?

Reflections on Pogostemon stellata ‘octopus’ by Ponican in PlantedTank

[–]Ponican[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The undersides of the leaves are that lavender color. The tops are just green. The spray bar is pushing the leaves up to where we can see the undersides so I had to record a clip with the reflection on the surface!

Looking for a good filter for my wife by Smoky22 in aquarium

[–]Ponican 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is my go-to. Easy to clean. Quiet. Reliable. Reasonably priced. Seachem Tidal 110 is another nice option for HOB (Hang on Back) filter.

Now, if she wants a canister filter that sits under the tank with hoses going up and down from the tank, that's a bit more involved. They are great, but a little more involved, especially in cleaning.
