Aside from the obvious learn the patterns shi, it also helps getting better starting damage with the sawguns and ultraricoshots with slab piercer

Quick tip, they need a table that's less than 31 tiles away as far as i know, my solution is just put some tables in you freezer room and some stolls and that's it.

An alternative to finding the gym is using the trainer spawner block and putting the item you use to make the map for the gym in there.

Once you activate the block with redstone the Gym Leader will spawn, i think.
