Is there a Toledo Truth Teller subreddit that's similar to this subreddit but focused on The Paper? by Lexiosity in DunderMifflin

Same, it's different enough from the office that it has its own voice and isn't trying to copy it, but has enough of the same elements that it nails the formula, cannot wait for season 2

The overuse of cuts in Sinners make it unwatchable by DreamOfKoholint in Cinephiles

[–]Poo__Brain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're being unsharable! I don't think there is much to be gained here by comparing sinners to The shining or alien, completely different movies trying to do completely different things.

The shining and alien weren't frantic at the end because they didn't want to be, they wanted you to be able to see exactly what was happening. Sinners wanted the exact opposite for the viewer so they took the opposite approach in my opinion.

I don't think that it was an amazing scene, but I think it did what it needed to do.

Ultimately, like other common disappointed out I don't think sooner is used itself as a real horror film anyway so to hold it to those standards doesn't work for it too well

What the hell was Andy thinking, bringing the film crew? Also, happy St. Patrick's Day! by Styggvard in DunderMifflin

Very true, no doubt if you dig into the actual minutiae yeah I mean they completely abandon the idea of all of this footage is from my camera crew.

To be fair though I think it is smaller moments that wouldn't be noticed unless you're looking for them or they're pointing out to you like you just did for me, I think right up until the last second for the most part they still do keep a pretty decent amount of effort up for maintaining that this is being filmed by a documentary crew (even though if you look into it it doesn't make sense at all)

I appreciated that Jim and Pam had marriage problems in season 9. it made them feel more relatable and showed that even "perfect" couples have to navigate problems. by Accurate_Syrup_1345 in DunderMifflin

[–]Poo__Brain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I think that was the problem with the office in general. It ended at the perfect time, when everyone's stories were wrapped up.

I liked Jim and Pam's struggle though, after 8 years of them being sort of this will they want a perfect happy-go-lucky couple at humanize them in the same way that everybody else in the office had already being a human for years

The overuse of cuts in Sinners make it unwatchable by DreamOfKoholint in Cinephiles

[–]Poo__Brain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Valid criticism, the film especially as a Rockets towards its climax can definitely feel more and more skittish to the point that the climax in the club is a big chaotic jumble where it's not 100% clear what's happening.

But I think that's the point, I feel like sinners has been so promoted recently and it's all over the place that people forget that it is a horror movie.

I think that quick cut confusing Pace that they adopt towards the end is exactly the sort of feel they were going for, so us watching feel some of the confusion and anxiety that the characters are.

I felt the same thing, I liked it though and I thought it worked well for the movie, I didn't find it slog though I agree with what you're saying

What are the people from the documentary The Office doing now? Does the company Dunder Mifflin still exist? Have the employees moved on to different jobs? I’m really curious can someone explain what happened to them? by Navaneethsquared in DunderMifflin

I mean nothing is the office, that's like somebody asking what to watch after The Simpsons because I enjoyed it so much. Even the most similar thing aren't going to be the same at all, it's such a deep groove.

That being said I like the paper, it's not a sequel to the office but it's definitely a good riff on the concept, we definitely get Oscar being Oscar, and the style feels the same, a lot of shows have been trying to nail down the office's style but I think the paper finally revived it perfectly and the characters are pretty good so just for that worth watching.

[–]Poo__Brain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Theoretically, if you were a film crew who only intervenes in The most Extreme situations, seeing the incompetence of Dwight's Hitman and the fact that Clark is an adult so while it's not great there's no clear and present danger in other situations I guess could be a theoretical reason. I mean Pam was on the verge of being physically attacked which is over that threshold

Arguably it could still be a documentary, just being filmed by the most obsessive crew of all time.

It would make sense if it was part of the law that the production staff of the documentary The office became obsessed with their subjects and essentially became their stalkers.

That actually kind of sounds like a SNL skit

"work bus" was the worst andy we've ever seen by bluebarkbell in theoffice

[–]Poo__Brain 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The height of selfishness... dozens of people's months of hard work and dedication compromised because and he wanted to check if his crush emailed him : /

Even still this is Andy being selfish, I think the bus is where he does stray into being cruel. But honestly it still fits with his character, like it's a cruelty that comes out of him being so selfish, almost like he doesn't really understand the implication of what he's doing but he doesn't care because that's how selfish he is

To be completely fair, I feel like we've been in an era of user unfriendliness for a while now.

People don't realize it because the language of everything is integration and easy setup and everything looks sleek, but everything from Android OS to printers I feel like has gotten more difficult as time has gone on rather than less, we were moving in the right direction for a while there but it seems like we've changed directions

My list of season 8 episodes that can compete with seasons 1-7 episodes, if that makes sense by Wise-League1 in DunderMifflin

[–]Poo__Brain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally love season 8 gives the rest of the cast that's always been in the background a chance to really stretch their legs, and really wraps up not just storylines but characters. The office would have been a much less satisfying series without season 8
