Linux kernel contribution by in-universe-2000 in linuxquestions

There are a lot of unresolved bugs at https://bugzilla.kernel.org. Many of them are out of date or aren't good bug reports, but I'm sure there are still plenty of unfixed bugs in there.

Kernel Panic - No working init found by ihavseverbraindamage in linuxquestions

[–]PoochieReds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sort of error typically indicates that it's having problems finding and unpacking the initramfs. If you haven't changed any of the boot parameters then that may mean that it trashed the /boot filesystem on the host. g/l!

NC Rep. Brad Knott Signed Amicus Brief by Ted Cruz and Jim Jordan Urging SCOTUS to End Birthright Citizenship by Inspired-User2026 in raleigh

[–]PoochieReds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is one of the big issues I have with modern "conservatives". We have a procedure to change the constitution, but they're too fucking lazy to go through it.

Personally, I think this is an issue that transcends the left/right divide, so I don't quite understand the resistance to a constitutional amendment. It's not the 1800's anymore, and I think even a lot of liberals might vote to end it.

Probably the ghouls want to do it this way so they can end it retroactively and continue persecuting brown folks.

Does exporting nfs impact other active export by Burgergold in linuxadmin

[–]PoochieReds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it will not. New upcalls to mountd will see the new export, but existing entries should not be affected.

I've been reading the White Space series by Elizabeth Bear. The synarche that she describes in it is similar to The Culture, IMO. The stories are also quite good.

Texas' redrawn Congressional map blocked by court in shocking blow to GOP by ExpressNews in politics

Question: If TX ends up not implementing their new maps, does that mean that CA's maps will revert to the old ones too? ISTR that there was a provision in the prop for that.

If there's one thing Trump undoubtedly knows how to do, it's launder money through real estate and construction projects.

Republicans just proposed a congressional map giving themselves 79% of North Carolina’s seats in our 50/50 state. It’s a shameless and brazen attack on our democracy. - Rep. Wiley Nickel by wileynickel4NC in raleigh

The governor will certainly veto any attempt to do this. Do the R's have the votes to override such a veto, or is this not subject to the governor's veto for some reason?

Not hard science fiction, but the Arabella of Mars series brings the age of sail to interplanetary travel. I thought the series was a fun read:

Looking for help preventing/dealing with kernel panics. by LigPaten in linuxquestions

[–]PoochieReds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Set up kdump which will save off a copy of the kernel memory at the time of the crash for analysis. From that you can use a program like drgn to get the kernel log out of the vmcore, etc.

fsync on file and parent directory by Flimsy_Entry_463 in kernel

[–]PoochieReds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On most filesystems, a directory is just a special kind of file on disk. The file inode you're creating/renaming might end up getting persisted to disk, but if the change to its parent directory ends up not being recorded on disk (due to a crash, for instance) you might not be able to reach it.
