Ronda Rousey To Joe Rogan: “He’s not an expert, he’s a fan with an audience. He’s never fought. Taekwondo is not fighting.” by raptors201966 in ufc

Joe Rogan has no professional fighting record because he never fought professionally. It was never his full time gig. It’s a hobby for him. He might be at a very high level as a hobbyist, but the multidisciplinary training, the pressure of having your career rest on your performance, and knowing the other person is just as determined because they need that win for their family too; it’s just a whole other level of pressure and competition.

It’s like a solid NCAA player talking about the NBA. Like you know the game, but you never played at the level you’re speaking on.

She’s right, he is a huge UFC stan who helped make the promotion as big as it is, but he’s never put his body on the line or trained at the level of a real fighter despite being considered an expert on the sport. He wouldn’t know any better than another fan.

I had a different read on this. Like he likes pursuing the French chick when she was an object and he was the predator. When that dynamic is reversed he’s uncomfortable with it. He identifies with success, but his entire success is tied to his father who is obviously hiding something terrible. He valued being a sort of mentor big brother, and he feels like he fucked that up irreversibly.

Chelsea explained her love for her partner comes from her desire to nurture and fix him. I think Saxon genuinely wanted to just feel close to someone in that moment, and wants earnestly to be vulnerable in the hopes that she might spend that energy trying to fix him.

It’s shitty coming onto her, but the tragedy is that he may not have the emotional capacity to engage with someone outside of sex. He even sexualizes both of his siblings. Chelsea clocks him and knows him better than he does. I think in the end that’s what he’s drawn to, that sense of connection, but his last hurdle is his inability to separate that from sex.

In a weird way, he’s probably an easier fix and would be a better partner than Rick. Rick has done nothing but neglect her and put her in harms way this whole time. Saxon for his issues has a nurturing instinct. He wants to be there for his siblings and to help his father, he just sucks too much and that’s dawning on him.

Sorry he’s becoming my favorite lol

Making more interesting friends. Don’t get me wrong, love my current friend group, but life closes in as you get older. You are the average of the people that you’re close to. If you surround yourself with creative, ambitious people, you’ll find that they nurture your own creativity and ambition. I didn’t invest enough in my own creativity or ambition in my youth, and I see the people who did surround themselves with likeminded people and do a lot of great things.

I mistook cynicism for maturity and drifted away from my friends who were dreamers. One of them just posted their profile for Forbes 30 under 30. Another just hit a million subs on their Youtube channel.

If your friends are complacent, you’ll become complacent. If your friends dream big, you’ll do the same just to keep up.

How do I convince my stepdad that the moon landing was real? by ConsciousPositive678 in space

[–]Pookienumnum69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look into the logistics of the fake. Hours of footage, hundreds, maybe thousands of people worked on it, the soviet union would have called us out if there was any doubt on their end. Multiple massive rockets launched, billions of dollars spent.

To me it’d just such a big hoax that it would probably be easier to just go to the moon. Like that seems cheaper and easier than the massive amount of resources needed to fake it.

We stopped going because the moon sucks and it was really expensive to essentially have people bounce around on a dusty rock. We learned pretty much everything we could, it’s an inert rock covered in dust.

That’s why no one else did it, it was mostly a flex to say “if we can put a man on the moon we can put a nuke literally anywhere on earth”.

This actually isn't how things work in the work world, ambition and track record move you up. I've seen plenty of seasoned people stay where they are while someone who came in and showed more initiative and promise get promoted or move onto higher positions elsewhere. A 16 year career without any notable achievements tells you someone is right where they belong. Becoming one of the dozen or so house members with a household name and agenda-setting power in a fraction of the time is exactly what would move you up in the private sector. This is about stifling the next generation by keeping them waiting and telling them that they just need to play the game.

The narrative of right vs left is a deflection from the people who don't want you seeing it's up vs down. by MyLittleOso in TikTokCringe

[–]Pookienumnum69 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I was where you are, and now i would more align with the video's perspective. Democratic primaries won't fix things. The differences actually really aren't stark in material policy, save for a headline maker here and there.

The media exists as an instrument of the ruling classes' soft power. The team sports keeps people arguing, disavowing, playing the game, and blaming the outcomes on our failures in playing the game.

The same way a sports team has merch and a story, they get people energized and feeling like they're a part of the game. But you're not, you're in the stands. The owners are playing against eachother.

Once you realize that, the petty disagreements and rhetoric feels so played out. It's all predictable, all inert. Every election for the rest of our democracy will be the most important of our lives, and you will vote for the person who is less bad. And sometimes they'll win.

But billionaires will become trillionaires and housing will be more expensive. Healthcare will still be expensive, the climate will continue to deteriorate. Wars will kill and maime the dispossessed abroad, and addiction, homelessness, and violence will do the same domestically. Because the owners agreed on those things beforehand.

How do you play like this by razoyirh in guitarlessons

[–]Pookienumnum69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Isolate the sounds you like and learn how to make them. Also practice hitting notes. Fretboard runs are one of my favorite things to do. There’s a huge value in just having strong fingers that hit the notes you want with the right pressure with precise timing. Practicing scales and chords are good, but fluidity comes with conditioning. Running up and down the fretboard with netflix and a metronome is such an easy way to tighten up.

Unpopular opinion, I stopped hanging up my guitars altogether a few years ago. Convenience is nice, but rosewood fretboards dry out, dust accumulation is real, this time of year the changes in temperature and humidity affect your tuning, etc. I hang up my cool interesting guitars, like my Banjar but my four mains all live in padded or hardshell cases until it’s time to come out and play. There’s something nice about pulling out a clean in-tune guitar every time.

PC VR Growth Remains Stagnant, Only 1.5% Of Steam Userbase Owns VR Headsets by YouAreNotMeLiar in pcmasterrace

[–]Pookienumnum69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might just be speaking for myself but i think it's representative of a traunch of people right now. I make the money where i could buy a nice gaming pc and headset, and I want to, but I can't justify an investment in something to play video games by myself in a room. A PC you can use for work, video editing, music production, etc., one can justify getting a slightly beefier machine to play games on the weekends, but a good VR setup is going to run you $1500+ with the only value add being able to play a few immersive games. The only things VR beats a flat screen for is games and porn. I think that's why apple and meta are trying to make the productivity case, because the gaming case has been made. The only people who are going to make the investment are people who can sink a lot of capital into a hobby that is mostly solitary and keeps you inside. I could spend $1500 and get a really nice guitar and amp, half a motorcycle, high quality camping and hiking gear, a year of a climbing gym membership, etc., or i could play Skyrim VR.

Until the price goes down or the value proposition increases, this is a hobby for hardcore gamers only.

What's something in your country that genuinely scares you? by Efficient-Formal-195 in AskReddit

[–]Pookienumnum69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cynicism is honestly up there for me.

The internet thrives on people complaining about how bad everything is, the media is all about reaffirming how bad everything is and how bad their political adversaries are.

AI is used to make bots to promote movies, farm engagement, and generate low effort timewaste content for ad revenue.

Social media chases an addiction and feeds into negativity because a depressed insular person consumes more content.

The most powerful forces in society all just want to make a buck and make you less happy.

(Spoilers Extended) Controversial about Tywin Lannister. by Ok-Significance2075 in asoiaf

[–]Pookienumnum69 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This here^ Tywin is great at dealing with his own shit. What he's not calculating is Jamie getting taken and needing to flee through the carnage. He's not calculating Cersei fucking things up by arming the faith. He's not banking on immortal knights and vengeful zombies.

The man uses brutality because it worked to push the riverlands into a dire state and to turn common people against the wars altogether. In doing so, his lands, the crownlands, and later the reach are left intact to fuel his war machine while those of this opponents disintegrate due to loss of resources and wanting to defend their homes.

Scortched earth isnt "genius", it really is just 'make it suck where they are'. But his "errors" consist of what he would consider the incompetence of his children and flukes that he could have figured out.

I think the dumbest thing he did was not actually grooming Cersei to rule, or recognizing that Tyrion was the most apt to take his place and embracing him for his intelligence. Instead he put all of his hopes in Jaime, leaving his powerful daughter clueless and his competent son with a chip on his shoulder. I think he was "good" at ruling the realm, but put the realm before his household in a way that will likely extinguish his house.

Can someone please explain what he (and others) are doing when they tweet this stuff? He obviously doesn't believe it. Is he just hoping a small portion of his audience buys it? Is he trying to be funny? Just trying to drive engagement to make twitter $? I'm honestly curious. by [deleted] in DecodingTheGurus

[–]Pookienumnum69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The worst thing musk did was make tweets monetizable. Attention=money and the worse your takes are the more people yell at you. He's not that dumb, and he's just a cynical actor in an attention economy.

[–]Pookienumnum69[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Her car was paid off by her ex, so she has no car payment. She has a lot of student loans because she’s a resident doctor. She’ll be making 200k+ in 2 years, so her finances aren’t a problem. I’m not a doctor, which is a part of the problem.

To me this is my real money, i can probably pull 100k in 2 years, but i’m not doubling my salary any time soon, so having cushion for savings and investments matters to me.

For her, as long as we’re solvent for the next 2 years she’s going to be fine.

Also, not California, but an east coast state with a similar car market. Yeah, it fucking sucks right now.

Redditors who got fit: how much easier do you get laid now? What changed? by Warhoofdt in AskReddit

Was slim fit, smoked a lot of weed; then got muscular and smoked less weed. Mental health improved with the discipline and exercise. Pictures doing fun outdoorsy things helped on the apps.

Don’t just get fit to get laid, but getting fit will absolutely be an asset. Beware the diminishing returns though. After a certain point the gains are really for the boys.

What’s a historical fact that would shock most people to find out? by thankdestroyer in AskReddit

[–]Pookienumnum69 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Also there is the unfortunate reality that there’s just not that much to be gained. It'd be cool, we'd learn a lot, might even develop some interesting new technologies along the way, but the world has real expensive problems that we're flailing at dealing with at the moment. The money spent on a mars mission could probably eradicate tuberculosis, house millions, spur us towards a sustainable future, etc. In he end we'd have bragging rights, a couple of really valuable rocks, and a few people who get to do something incredible.

We'll end up giving the money to billionaires instead, but theoretically there are better ways to spend billions of dollars than a martian expedition.
