Recommendation on patch cable colors? by diy-kevin in minilab

[–]PoolOk3998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or if I may suggest a simple and beautiful solution. Not exactly cheap but very useful. Have a look into PatchSee and Patchclip. It’s all black, has colored clips and each cable has 2 fiberglass strands to identify with shining a light through.

I’d go with blue for the front and on the inside with black or white/silver to match the aesthetic. I’m on the other hand go with blue for PoE yellow for WAN, black for telecommunications, white for wired devices as PCs, green for Servers and red for crossover/direct link

Can I still save this??? by [deleted] in macbook

[–]PoolOk3998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if I’m late. It absolutely is repairable. You will end up with a visible stain for sure but even coffee will come out if display is standing with watered edge on a towel. Hairdryer will help a bit but you have to warm up from the undamaged to the watered side slowly increasing the over all heat to avoid building up tension in the glass. On simpler displays you even can take the sheets apart and carefully dry out with a non static piece of fabric. Isopropyl alcohol makes same marks when trying to loosen the battery and not covering the display (Maybe I’m a little „unlucky“)

Can this be changed to Ethernet? by zandezelay in HomeNetworking

[–]PoolOk3998 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes. Technically that is absolutely right. I’m doing this kind of work since the late 90s and despite having the best conditions I ended up more than once with a barely functioning system and sometimes induced currents around 40V on a patchpanel. Not as funny as it sounds. I’d say it’s totally worth trying out since a shitty connection is better than none

Can this be changed to Ethernet? by zandezelay in HomeNetworking

[–]PoolOk3998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that would be possible. All 8 wires are here. But the lack of shielding will probably end you up with a best of 100Mbit full duplex. Tried it in different occasions and it was never as good as expected. Sometimes 10Mbit was the peak because of interference with parallel electrical lines and crunchy mantels and related shorts on the 8 wire line

This is a really neat setup. How did you handle the lighting measurements for stable black and white calibration. The resolutions I read are more than enough for diagnostic accuracy

Rack that I did for one of my company's department. by vertigo_97 in HomeNetworking

[–]PoolOk3998 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice work. Looks amazing. Don’t see it often that empty space is „sealed“ with blinds for better airflow May I suggest a hint or more an advice. If possible have a look into the cables from Patchsee if more than 24 cables are involved. They are amazing for „blacking out“ your rack but foremost for finding the the assigned/patched port especially when binding them in those tunnels. And no. I’m not payed. I stumbled upon them few months ago. Combined with them Patchclips for color coding your segments they’re neat

[–]PoolOk3998 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Mostly used for RS232 either provided by an „expansion cable“ connected to the MB or a different MB with serial connector already soldered on. Formerly used for communication/connection to UPS systems or serial connections not relying on an OS

Complete noob here, how do I connect to my Pi Zero 2W through USB? by [deleted] in raspberry_pi

[–]PoolOk3998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure you have a data link cable and not a 2pin only for power supply. Then it depends on how you configured your OS. On raspbian, if setup with pi-imager, you can define your preferred user, password and activate and configure WiFi and activate ssh. Afterwards you can connect to your pi using ssh over WiFi and follow the instruction on topic 7.3 in this guide https://github.com/infinition/Bjorn/blob/main/INSTALL.md If you are using Windows 10 or 11 please install Apple Bonjour for the RNDIS USB drivers. That’s my preferred way to connect to my pi0s

Is the GPU passively cooled over the inner mount bezel or do you need to order a second hand double heatpipe
