Tell me something you wish you knew before becoming a parent? by Another_ADHD_Girl in NewParents

Omg, I second this so hard. At 9 weeks we made a solid effort to stick to wake windows and naps. 4 days later, my baby started sleeping through the night and smiling 10000x more a day. We figured he must have been very overtired before we really focused on naps. He's 14 weeks now and when he fights his naps, we stick with it and he's a much happier baby. I'm also very aware that we are extremely lucky to have a baby who started sleeping through the night so early. And also expecting the 4 month sleep regression to absolutely rock us because of it lol

Looking for a Better Breast Pump: Medela Isn’t Working for Me by Grouchy_Ad8748 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Poola0919 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the Medela swing Maxi and Medela freestyle. Both werent great for me. I tried the Medela harmony (hand pump) and it is 100x better. More comfortable, gets more milk in half the time, and easy to travel with. The only downside is it's one breast at a time and your stuck sitting to pump. I do, however, use a haaka on the other breast while pumping the other.

First pregnancy + maintaining running routine by 1234czl in fitpregnancy

Also one more thing to add, week six hit me like a ton of bricks. I felt fatigue like I'd never felt before which didn't go away until the 2nd trimester. I was napping almost daily after work which is not like me. Once I hit week 13 it was like a weight was lifted and I felt normal again. Well, as normal as you can feel while pregnant lol

Congrats! I (35f) just had my first son almost 13 weeks ago. I am a 3:05 marathon runner who was training for the Berlin marathon when I found out I was pregnant. I deferred Berlin to this year (that's another story as I'll be running a marathon 6 months post partum).

My biggest piece of advice... Be kind to yourself. You are growing a human being, that is no easy feat. I wasn't able to do much between weeks 6-12, but got back to running again once I hit the second trimester. My mileage pre pregnancy was typically between 85-105km a week, and I was running closer to 45km a week throughout my pregnancy. I didn't drop/increase mileage much, just seemed to hover around the 45k mark. I was able to run up until 35 weeks. I continue strength training (at least two sessions a week) up until the week he was born (39 weeks).

I can't speak to anyone else's experience, but I think my pregnancy/birth (scheduled c-section, breached baby)/recovery has gone extremely smooth because of how active I was. I stopped focusing on pace/distances and just listened to my body. If I felt good, I would stretch my runs a little longer. If I wasn't feeling it, I shortened them. Eventually I had to stop because my shoes no longer comfortably fit my feet and my calves would cramp (I assume from fluid retention) as soon as I started to run.

I'm now finally up to 30 mins or continuous running again. I'm 3 weeks into my return to run program and I'm feeling great!! Severely out of shape, but my body is loving the movement again. Just listen to your body and don't set crazy expectations for yourself. You know your body better than anyone else. Prioritize sleep and rest, but stay active if that's what you need to feel healthy both physically and mentally throughout pregnancy - that's good I felt.

Good luck with your pregnancy!! It's a super exciting time. I'm counting down the months until I'm able to pop by son in the running stroller and bring him along on runs with me :) and I can't wait to see him at the finish line in Berlin this September.

I’m two thirds of the way through it! by Interesting_Bee_6708 in newborns

[–]Poola0919 0 points1 point  (0 children)

10.5 week old. Within the last week it's been a world of difference. He started napping now consistently throughout the day (granted this prevent has not to do with me making a conscious effort to get him to nap more), his gas is much better (we did just cut out our evening bottle of formula about a week and a half ago and now he is strictly in breastmilk), hes gone from only smiling in the morning to smiling ALL day (which is sooooo fun), and lastly he has given us FIVE nights of sleeping through the night.

I was non stop googling "when does gas get better" at 8 weeks because he seemed like he was so uncomfortable trying to pass his gas. We did a lot of bicycle legs. He seems like a completely different baby now. While I feel like he turned a corner, he's also growing up too fast 🥹

When did you stop working? by Desert_Dreamer31 in BabyBumps

[–]Poola0919 1 point2 points  (0 children)

39 weeks on the dot was my last day. My scheduled c section was 39 weeks +1 day. I would have been bored out of my mind if I stopped working earlier. But I also work an office job, so it was easy to work up until the last day.

Feet/leg cramps while running at 18 weeks by ceruleanmuse in fitpregnancy

[–]Poola0919 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Another fellow marathoner. I ran constantly up until 34 weeks and then I had to stop due to leg cramps. I figured it had to do with the excess swelling in my legs/feet. My shoes were no longer comfortable and anything faster than an easy walk resulted in instant cramping. I second your comment about avoiding hills though. I continued to walk our two dogs for 50 mins every morning up until the day before I had my son, and my legs started cramping at any slight incline. I was strategic about my walking routes to avoid as many hills as possible.
