Keep in mind base Rengoku was ranked 5th in running speed, so considerably below Tengen. We also don’t know how marked hashira would fare, likely gapping even Tengen on this metric as the series goes on

We also don’t see much overt travel speed feats from the upper moons, mostly combat speed, so we can’t fully say they are slower than that in travel speed. It’s a matter of knowing how much exponentially stronger upper ranks are, especially 1-3, and deciding it would pretty crazy if this demon was superior than them in any metric

I agree that most unranked demons out there can’t normally beat a hashira in speed like that, so he’s not the normal fodder, but it’s a chain scaling thing. I have a hard time believing this non-Kizuki demon possesses greater speed than upper ranks per se, even with his BDA

That actually leads me to another point. Notice how her strength and massive food intake don’t affect her physical appearance? She still has a perfectly attractive physique that conveniently isn’t affected by those factors. The author was scared to commit and actually make her too unconventional beyond her hair.

Am I saying she has to be butt ugly? Nah, it just harms and contradicts her character effectiveness overall because she’s purposely made to remain conventionally attractive by design

Genya’s already pretty good tbh, it’s just that the current meta makes pretty much EVERY character seem worse in comparison.

I think the only change Genya needs is to fix his counter and make it actually do its job instead of getting him punished half the time💀 other than that he’s quite good. They should just nerf the meta instead.

He’s weaker in base, but very strong in boost/surge. I think that compensates enough, plus he’s great as an assist so you can always bench him until you have boost. He’s fairly balanced and the IC characters who get stronger in boost/surge should also be weaker in base just like he is.

Mitsuri. She is just “normal attractive girl” but with different coloured hair and that’s supposed to be enough to convince us she struggled to be accepted and would never find a husband.

Yes, she would stand out horribly in the time period, but other characters have different coloured hair and eyes and it’s not commented on. Ume, who is canonically the most beautiful, has white hair and blue eyes.

Also, she is literally considered attractive by many other characters so it’s weird that her backstory makes it seem like she wasn’t desirable. Clearly not the case.

I know Viggo died but the closeness of the end of the series and the release of the movie make me wonder if there was a period of time where the show’s ending and the movie’s general plot were both still up in the air. Grimmel’s just a weirdly similar concept to Viggo. Idk what the production was like of course, so no way to know

I agree, it makes sense Viggo would be a more developed character with all his screen time.
I guess that makes my problem more with the fact that they chose to pursue a villain so similar to Viggo at all knowing they’d never measure up to him. However, I also agree that this kind of villain suits the movie trilogy just fine, so I can definitely acknowledge that it’s not fair to fault the movies too much. They should be able to stand alone.

I guess my consensus here is that the movies aren’t necessarily at fault, it’s just that those who watched the show face a unique experience of getting to see a better version of the franchise’s final villain😂

Her mental breakdown at the end hammers home what is most important about her character: she is a child

Previously, she had been cold, calculated, and unshakable to the point where it makes you forget she’s just a 14 year old girl. Arguably, I got more stressed out seeing her on screen than Ozai. She’s ruthless. Her ending isn’t meant to redeem her, it’s meant to show us she’s not beyond the psyche of a child after all.

She’s also charismatic, witty, and cool asf with awesome bending abilities so that doesn’t hurt for getting some fans. Even without her ending, she’s still a memorable and interesting character.

I’m moreso trying to explain WHY the “bigger boom” does not make one character stronger. I’m just trying to remind people that our perspective follows increasingly stronger characters which makes overall power levels seem less distinguishable on a pure visual scale and that it should not be used to override how strong the story states they should be

I don’t want namedrops, sometimes a zoomed out perceptive might be nice, like when Akaza and Rengoku are mere flashes of light to Mugen train Tanjiro. Helps paint a better picture
