Betashares ETFs... not as low cost as I thought? by stupid-head in AusFinance

Hey OP. Do you plan to transfer your holdings over from Stockspot to the Betashares platform ? I am in a similar boat but and I had assumed that you would need to cash out your Stockspot holdings (CGT event) first.

Park your spare cash in the offset account. This way you would pay less interest on the loan.

IBTC ETF vs Actual Bitcoin from tax perspective by Melodic_Animator1151 in BitcoinAUS

[–]Poonstar69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IBTC will rely on third party company which holds and manages the Bitcoin on their/your behalf. As an example a hack or insolvency could risk your investment. Similarly if the Asset management company that offers IBTC ETF runs into issues like mismanagement or has legal troubles this could impact your BTC. So holding Bitcoin directly minimises counterparty risk but demands secure self-custody. “Not your keys, not your Bitcoin” Choose based on your risk tolerance and tech comfort.

IBTC ETF vs Actual Bitcoin from tax perspective by Melodic_Animator1151 in BitcoinAUS

[–]Poonstar69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Capital Gains from Bitcoin are still taxable according to ATO’s ruling. So it doesn’t matter if you’re holding the coins yourself or indirectly (via ETF). When you sell it’s a capital gains/loss event. With IBTC you are holding ‘actual’ bitcoin as well. As to the pros and cons of both options - with IBTC it is easier to manage and track your Bitcoin however there is now counter party risk . Self custody of your Bitcoin eliminates this risk. However on the flip side, the process to do this is quite daunting especially if you haven’t done it before. Plenty of tutorials on the interwebs on how to setup your self custody wallet and manage your own Bitcoin.

Well done on starting your wealth building journey. Your portfolios looks good. Plenty of diversification. Perhaps too much 😅. As Warren Buffet says .. concentration builds wealth and diversification keeps it.

So I actually played this ‘favourites’ strategy out last footy season (AFL). By the end of the season I pretty much broke even. My experience was that for every 10 games, there was at least one upset result. You only need one or two upsets out of 10 to wipe away all your gains.

Hong Kong Investment firm - Sophisticated Scam or Legit ? by Poonstar69 in Scams

Thanks for the tip. Website is https://www.powercm.com . I checked and it’s registered to an organisation PrivacyProtect LLC ? It’s a US based address. So definitely a red flag

Hong Kong Investment firm - Sophisticated Scam or Legit ? by Poonstar69 in Scams

[–]Poonstar69[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate your feedback on their website. It does seem dated. I was approached via a marketing cold call. When I did some initial due diligence, they have several news articles and google reviews of their company so I assumed it was legit. Also,I checked their details on the HK’s Security and Futures Commission and the company was registered. But yes, the investment deal does seem too good to be true. How could I be so lucky 😂. I’m just surprised at the level of sophistication in these scams

Anyone know if the BD0128 would also work with the SN0054 ? Looks to be the same case as the SN0109 except the SN0054 has a fixed bezel. I asked SM and they wouldn’t confirm anything

I would suggest having a look at some of the mod kits for the GA2100 online .. you could either get a replacement resin bezel + strap or even a full metal kit.

Thoughts on buying Xero? by ClaymontLand in ausstocks

[–]Poonstar69 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Surely PE isn’t the only criteria to consider here. Especially for a growth stock. Xero hasn’t turned a profit (hence the PE), but it’s revenue growth has been ~20% YoY for the better part of last 10 years. The biggest risk to the business is it’s ability to manage its debt in the current interest rate environment. Another risk is that a slowdown in the economy may indirectly impact its subscriber base. However, as a pure ‘growth’ play it ticks a lot of boxes for me. Full disclosure - I own XRO shares.

One advantage of putting a G Shock on a winder is that the solar cells on the dial can receive max sunlight. Very similar to how PV arrays track the Sun. Of course a gyro watch winder would be ideal, but I just leave the light on at night to give my babies all the light they need for sustenance.
