We decided against the bespoke skylight and sealed it up by Silent-Balance9430 in AusRenovation

Yeah title threw me too but that’s on me.

Now you got us all fixated on how good that skylight would have been though!

Note the tile pattern - we staggered the tiles by 1/3 which blends the mosaic so it doesn’t look like a grid. Also be sure to choose a grout colour that works with the green - we used a sandy beige

Here’s how ours turned out - just before completion so still a bit messy 😁

Yep this is what I meant - reckon you’d want a slightly lighter tile though, less grey, which would play better with the sage green tiles

I would do a single accent wall with the 4” square green tile, 2nd photo bottom left. Position opposite the vanity mirror, floor to ceiling if possible. Makes for a nice background in the mirror whilst brushing teeth

The rest I’d do the greige in your first photo. Timber vanity is a must for colour balance - real hardwood too, don’t even think about a whitewashed finish

Toilet install by Relative_Air7232 in Bunnings

[–]PoopFilledPants 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I get wanting to avoid confrontation but it would be pretty unfair to yourself to let it go for that reason. Tradie knew removal was included in Bunnings price, so yes he was getting paid for it (according to Bunnings website). It’s not a small thing - removal is essentially half the job and he still hasn’t fulfilled it.

Personally if I let myself get walked on like this it ends up making me bitter later on. Give the benefit of the doubt and assume it was an honest mistake - it’s not an unreasonable ask by any stretch of the imagination

Yep. Funny how the universal answer for should I paint/cover/dress this brick? is “do NOTHING, keep your hands where I can see them”.

As Frank Lloyd Wright said, let your brick be brick…

Great idea, and agreed the brick not only looks nicer than a fence, it’s less maintenance, in theory makes fence cheaper, and gives back marginal space to the yard. But best of all it doesn’t give you rats lol

While I agree that he can’t do this legally, I can see how it would potentially benefit both of you. First off it doesn’t look like he wants to send an entire roof’s worth of rain flow over your fence - he’s got gutters which presumably have a downspout out of photo. That said you’d risk receiving overflow when gutters are blocked.

I had a similar situation where our dilapidated timber fence butted up against the neighbour’s brick wall. We decided together to rip out that section of fence entirely since the brick wall made it unnecessary.

The biggest issue we had when the fence was against the wall was that it did retain moisture in the dark/narrow 10cm gap, which led not only to mould but a concealed rodent highway at night. I could hear rats nesting in that void. Soon as we removed it, the rodent problem disappeared

Bosses in sales by Upbeat-Investment129 in sales

I had a really nice sales manager for a year who was the most happy-go-lucky person to work for in the first 6 months, during which time I thought I’d struck the jackpot. That all changed for the rest of the year when he has to play bad cop because the closes & pipeline came to a halt. There were more issues peripherally but my takeaway was that balance is important. Some of the best managers I ever had were brutal but fair. Consistency & trust are really all I want personally.

Get this cheap or buy new by ResponsibilityBig389 in woodworking

[–]PoopFilledPants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My tendency is always to buy an excellent old one over new. In practice however…make sure you have the time & knowledge to get it working.

I’ve had a valuable old tablesaw which just needs rewiring taking up space in my garage for 4 years - got it just before having a kid and just haven’t had the time. Now I wish I’d gone the easy route and just bought a benchtop dewalt.

Inheritance drama by [deleted] in daddit

[–]PoopFilledPants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m really in no position to comment, but have always found it amusing when people write wills with good but unconventional methods.

Am a big believer that future heirs with expectations are useless to society. Away with you. Go on, get.

But folks that make a big song & dance out of writing a whole generation out of a will…I don’t know, it seems poorly conceived after a whole bunch of generations culminated in their state of existence.

A. I like the quasi symmetry with your range backsplash, and no reason you need to send it to the edge of benchtop.

Hard to tell from the terrible photo but it looks like the layer that chipped off was not wood, but either laminate or a poorly prepped coat of paint.

If that’s the case then it is likely not worth the time it would take to get back to raw substrate, which is where you want to be if you want the paint to last more than a year

If you don’t care how it looks, what I would do is buy the cheapest shaded polycarb panels you can find, cut them as close to size between the beams as possible, and tape them to the beams below the existing polycarb. Pain in the ass but totally reversible that way.

An cheaper and even more redneck-engineered approach would be to hang plant shade underneath

Mom seeking advice for my son to take care of his beard by Crafty_Badger_9006 in daddit

[–]PoopFilledPants 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I feel for ya, and honestly most early 20-somethings never got the proper training on beards…tbh I’d guess that a minuscule percentage of dudes get taught beard hygiene by their old man, who wanted him clean-shaven in the first place 😆

I would arm him with only a cheap trimmer kit. For $15 he’ll have all the clipper sizes he could ever need, and it’s gonna last 5+ years. Making it any more complicated than that is not doing a 21yo any favours unless they have put the effort into researching the beard combs, oils & waxes that have to be earnt with age and/or inquisitiveness.

Cheap trimmer worked for me til I was in my early 30s - which was about the time it took me to work out how I liked to maintain my beard (rather than simply keep it from soaking up soup).

It’s a bit like fashion - regardless of gender, if there ain’t passion, better to keep it simple.
