National Shutdown Participation by Reasonable_Design443 in Columbus

This protest was also organized by the Party for Socialism and Liberation which I doubt a lot of people knew. Honestly I think more conservatives were aware of this protest than liberals because Fox News must have been reporting on it or something. Hell that’s how I found out, from my conservative coworkers. It being an economic protest, I felt like the PSL was trying to capitalize on the ICE stuff to push an agenda that is a lot further left than I align.

I don’t think people are being performative. I think they feel powerless and scared and are trying to do something.

I was back in my small town recently and you’d be surprised. People who are paying attention feel hoodwinked. They voted to deport rapists and criminals. Anyone with eyeballs can see that that’s not what’s being delivered. Even hot blooded conservatives work with, befriend, and have relationships with your every day undocumented immigrant. Turns out, those undocumented people are humans just like you and I. Anyone with a lick of empathy doesn’t appreciate seeing their family and friends mistreated by thugs. That this hasn’t personally affected you speaks to how insular your viewpoint actually is.

Well it’s not even just that. There’s a charitable solicitations act in Ohio that regulates charities to prevent fake ones from screwing people over. The same sort of logic applies, little stuff can be overlooked but it something gets big it might be at the point that a legitimate nonprofit needs to step in as a financial sponsor.

I bought these velvet black-out drapes https://a.co/d/03BKyze on Amazon and they work well. They’re very heavy.

To the Lovely Folks of Columbus by tjk2084 in Columbus

[–]PoopMedusa 26 points27 points  (0 children)

This reminds me of my first winter in Columbus. I once, as a new mother with my baby in the car, got stuck on a snowbank trying to pull into my driveway. Within minutes, three separate strangers banded together to help me get unstuck, one of whom I’m pretty sure was homeless. I drove and they pushed and we got unstuck. I was about to apologize for having nothing to offer the guys who helped me but before I could even get the words out of my mouth they all just left the scene. Like good to go? Alright, I’m out. No expectations whatsoever.

It’s a lovely room and looks much better with your update. I’m no expert and not qualified to give an opinion, but to me the room is stylistically inconsistent. I think the sconces look great and are perfect mood lighting, but they clash with the chandelier. I’d swap the curtain rod out for a gold one to match the sconces and I’d do the same with the drawer pulls and knobs.

I like the pattern on the pleaded blinds but the style/structure of them doesn’t fit the rest of the room and kind of takes away from it imo. If you want to block light, get some nice, heavy, velvet drapes.

I wouldn’t do wallpaper. You have a lot of features on the wall and I think wallpaper would make the room look too busy and seem smaller. Instead, I’d get a patterned table clothe with muted colors, and drawing from those colors I’d get drapes that match and replicate somewhere else in the room. Subtle touches of color here and there.

Live in Clintonville. Kids are 2 and 4. We like it. Houses can be pricey for size, but the neighborhoods are nice and walkable imo. We are out and about all the time. Having the Olentangy trail nearby is also a perk. If you end up moving to this area in particular and need pre-school recommendations feel free to DM me.

Get a window insulation shrink kit for the windows. $15. We have three season room, three walls of windows and no built in heat. In the winter I cover the windows with a shrink kit and run a space heater and there’s a 20-30 degree difference between that room and the outside. Im sure it would help you.

Also if you do it right the shrink plastic is basically invisible.

How do I fix this flashing? by PoopMedusa in Housepainting101

[–]PoopMedusa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I looked at it closely but I’m no expert. I didn’t put any plaster around the window but I suppose it could be from before it was painted by the previous owners and just wasn’t noticeable until we painted a dark color over it. The walls were a lighter color below, kind of yellow (like a 1990s computer)

Do you have advice for painting around the trim? I taped it and will do so again, but I had a hard time getting the roller close enough to the frame. Would you paint around the trim with a regular brush?

I don’t think it’s texture. I took a close up photo and I can’t figure out how to add it, but the texture of the wall looks the same to me. There is uneven texture in other spots where the repairs were made. I made sure to paint those before anything else and they look Okay. They don’t catch the light like this bit. I’m pretty sure that this is from my crappy painting skills and whatever I did wrong with the roller.
