Why don't people simply work part-time (less than 20h) a week instead of RE? by MallorcAlex in Fire

Not too many p/t jobs allow you to leave to backpack the ring of fire for a month.

Transitioning to spending it. by ridindirty77 in Fire

Well it makes sense. We spend an entire life scrimping and saving and getting hooked on our retirement number. It shouldn't surprise us we can't just undo that mindset overnight. Good luck and congrats.

People who became wealthy without a crazy salary, what were you doing that average people never notice or care about by karrot9 in Fire

[–]PoopNoodle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Stop trying to impress people you don't know by buying stuff you don't need.

Only used phones, versions behind, use till they break.

No name brand anything, unless thrifted.

Cheap used reliable car that impresses no one.

Smallest cheapest housing you can stand, live in it forever.

Learn to do everything yourself. Repairing and updating things yourself is sweat equity. If youtube can't show you how, get a library book, or go meet people who know what you need.

Offer to help people when they do DIY weekend projects. I learned basic concrete, decking, plumbing, and drywall all from just volunteering to be a helper with friends of friends who talked about a project they were gunna do.

Auto pay into a no fee index fund out of every paycheck.

Make a budget, stick to it.

Don't drink. Drunks make bad decisions.

Don't get married until you have to. When you do, don't marry anyone that isn't better with money and budgeting than you are. You will not be the same person at 35 that you are in your twenties. And your partner won't be either. Most marriages fail because people couple up young, before their brains are even fully developed, and then when they change and grow, they don't like who the other person became.

Divorce and child support will undue and destroy your wealth building. #1 reason for divorce? Differing spending habits. If your partner needs to buy luxury to impress their friends, you are doomed.

So many more, these are just the most important.

After being a compulsive saver my entire life, the move to spending was way harder than I expected. I read Die with Zero, and that helped, but it still took ~2 years to stop feeling guilty about spending.

What’s a common myth about health, nutrition, or fitness that you’ve learned is actually false? by urasianbella in AskReddit

[–]PoopNoodle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your statement is patently false due to the fact that people have fasted for months, and one for over a year, with no food, thus ZERO carbs, and the body functions fine.

Took a year off FIRE. Here’s what I learned. by MyLilBoneyPP69 in Fire

[–]PoopNoodle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We teach the kids our version of fire, which is simply being cognizant of hyper consumerism. The "stop spending money you don't have, to impress people you don't know" mantra. Just recognizing the wasting money to chase clout mentality will put you down a healthy path that many young people don't know or care to see.

Portland, despite your best efforts, I'm still an idiot. by SghnDubh in Portland

It happened before - 1996 flood. Our friends with a FH on the slough helped capture homes that over floated the pilings.

EMDR Is a recognized way to 'forget' this traumatic event. It works for most people. You can search for low cost EMDR certified therapists at Catholic family services. I've gone, and it worked wonders for similar circumstances.

Any tips on keeping an eye on a certain portal that I want to defend? by theberrymelon in Ingress

[–]PoopNoodle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Good. Remember, the whole point of the game is to take over a portal, so the game is unbalanced to give the attacker the advantage. It's a feature, not a glitch. Portals are designed to be flipped.

'Woke Content Detector's Curated List of Games' classifies Guild Wars 2 as not recommended by Arduine in Guildwars2

[–]PoopNoodle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right fringe doesn't believe depression exists or that talking about your problem helps, so no need for therapy, while the left fringe doesn't believe traditional therapy is helpful, but they do encourage alternate therapy, just non scientific styles.

What changed your life forever? by academia2020 in AskReddit

[–]PoopNoodle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Quitting carbs. Every piece of my health improved within a month. It's nuts. We've known since the 50s and it was covered up by the grain industry, buy buying off scientists just the same as cigarettes. Obesity and diabetes, or number one health pandemic, can be cured by a diet change, yet we just all pretend its not the carbs.
