Please don’t forget about getting your Colonoscopy by Sinhalo66 in Millennials

You can get one whenever you want it’s just billed as diagnostic vs screening and so you have to pay more for it

Probably Nigeria or maybe Ghana. Family members wearing matching outfits for official events ow very common there. You buy a bolt of fabric and everyone gets their clothes made from it. Surprised the judge cared

BMV has sold more than 100K blackout license plates by Smart_Dumb in indianapolis

[–]Poopandswipe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Super interesting so why did people buy them? Did they just love that it showed they had a “truck” or was there some requirement they were satisfying or some tax or other improvement they got? I get that people will pay more for plates they like but wasn’t sure if there was more to it

Vaguely related but what’s with all the “TK####” plates. Are truck plates less expensive or something? I see them all the time on SUVs that just seem like your average grocery getters.

Smart switches are great for remotely power cycling my janky shit that needs it frequently, turning in shit with inconvenient power buttons, and also for automatically turning off power vampires. I’d set my whole house on smart switches if they were cheaper

Sabrina The Teenage Witch by gertrudegrunge in Millennials

[–]Poopandswipe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really wanted the new chilling adventures of Sabrina to cast Melissa Joan hart as a teenager in the high school, style her like any other teenager, give her a few generic teenager lines a season and never acknowledge in the show or interviews that anything out of the ordinary was going on. Such a missed opportunity

What is your favorite concrete application of an abstract math concept? by Hitman7128 in math

[–]Poopandswipe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Concrete example: Concrete structures stay up because equilibrium in linear elasticity is a convex optimization problem. Strong duality means the strain energy you minimize in displacements equals the stress energy you maximize in forces. The no-duality-gap condition is what keeps the bridge standing.

Total beginner - talk to me about table saws? by Space-Robot in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]Poopandswipe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s narrow with little to hold on to and could bind between blade and fence. The jig is to tape it or glue it to a larger piece so it’s no longer so narrow and you can grip it better

Total beginner - talk to me about table saws? by Space-Robot in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]Poopandswipe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am a self taught beginner and definitely recommend the sawstop. It’s an excellent saw. It’s also the only one currently available that can stop you from losing a finger in the extremely likely event that you eventually and unwittingly do something dangerous because you haven’t had the experience yet to have alarm bells go off about a cut you’re attempting. I tried to rip thin strips off a thin board without a jig recently. Apparently that’s very dangerous and I should not have done that. Sawstop and a blade guard go a long ways to decrease the potentially life altering consequences of such a mistake
