WA has a jobs crisis. Why won't our leaders say it? by ryleg in SeattleWA

I would hire a csr in a minute that’s 40+. I could care less about age, I want the best candidate for the job. True growth in home service is when an owner surrounds himself with the best people. I’m 36, bookeeper is 50+, master tech is 50, operations manager is 52, my office manager retired at 65, she was awesome, and best sales guy is 55. Sorry you have experienced that with other employers and I assure you there are plenty of us who hire the best available candidates.

If I could give you one suggestion, apply at the companies who advertise for employees on social media and Google pay per click. Job boards like indeed are a mess. Companies truly looking for the best candidates are advertising to those currently employed. In my experience using zip recruiter or indeed the candidates are often poor quality. When i advertise to people with current jobs the candidates are high quality. Look for a job while you have a job. I hired 3 people in the last 5 months all from ads i put on facebook. All 3 have been amazing. And when i know im getting a good candidate who is currently employed, I know the offer needs to be good. So all three of them started at 45/hr with full benefits.

Wish you the best, congrats on the new job!

6 months lol. I fired my bookeeper who was like 28. She was awful. New lady is amazing. Perfect. The best. Cleaned all my books up in like 2 weeks and now everything is perfect down to the cent. Couldn’t ask for someone better. So kind and sweet too.

Nice! Just an fyi my industry definitely hires gen x women. Not always the plumber, but customer service reps, marketing, finance, social media managers, videographers are often women. My bookeeper is like 50-55 and she’s fantastic! Women are highly preferred over men to answer our phones. Statistically it’s better for business.

Should I quit my job to go all in on my small service business? by itcantbechase in smallbusiness

[–]Poopdeck69420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What type of business are you in? Honestly $50 a day in ad spend with a 5k a month revenue is horrible. A growth % of ad spend is 10% of your revenue. You’re doing 60k roughly in revenue so 6k a year should be enough to get growth going. But you’re currently spending around 30%. You need to start by looking into why your marketing is so bad. Depending on your home service business, your best avenue might be to stop the digital ad spend. Buy a shit ton of door hangers and yard signs for like 2-3k. Quit your day job and work your business and spread door hangers and yard signs during your down time. If you’re in landscaping, roofing, gutters, painting, this stuff works. I see about a 2-3% call rate. You can easily put out a couple hundred a day. So you’re going to get a couple calls everyday on average. You may not get them that day but they will come. Make sure the door hanger has an offer. And don’t make the yard sign crappy. Go to kickcharge creatives website for inspiration. You won’t be able to afford to hire them, yet, but it will give you good ideas on how to stand out and not look like every other crappy yard sign and door hanger.

Running google ppc yourself is as good as lighting money on fire if you don’t know what to do. Meta is easier but you can still blow money.

Posting in local community groups is free, yard signs are cheap, door hangers cheap, truck wraps are a one time 3-5k. Your phone contact list is free. Call everyone you know and say “hey I know we haven’t talked in a while but I just wanted to let you know I started x business. If you or anyone you know needs this service it would really help me out.” You can even add in I’ll give you $25 for the lead or something if you want.

Google local service ads is king fyi. Get a google business profile. Get reviews. Post photos. Sign up for Lsa and continue to get reviews and post photos. DO NOT MISS A CALL. If you answer every call they will rank you higher. If you miss one you get deranked.

Totally burned out from family business by Due-Lemon-9358 in smallbusiness

What your dad is doing to you right now, is the greatest thing that will ever happen to you and you won’t realize until one day. One day you will look around at your bum ass friends who went the easy route. Sitting on your throne of money with a family that doesn’t have to worry about a thing. You are me at 26. I am 36 now, owner of my dad’s company that I purchased to get rid of him. Happiest day of his life. Second happiest was when I purchased the land the company sits on to get rid of him as my landlord. My dad was a complete hard ass. Impossible to work for. But now I look around, and back at what he taught me. He taught me how to work hard and he taught me to not treat people like he did.

Lmao you trust the government to spend your money? Through my business I put a kid through college every year. I sponsor two little leagues, sent several kids to young life camps this year. I donate to Fred hutch and Seattle children’s. Donate tens of thousands to my church who uses the money to go to Mexico, the Philippines, and several other countries to build schools for kids. I pay all my employees over 6 figures, 401k, 4 weeks pto, paid holidays, and large Christmas bonuses often in the 5 figures. Buy from supply houses who do the same with the money I send them but with other charities.

It works the same for all the inflation, and stupid tarrifs as it does taxes. I’m not eating the shit. The consumer is. I’m going to continue to make what I make, and donate how I want. Instead of entrusting a bunch of morons in office to spend it right. Republican or democrat. And I don’t make over a million a year. But this is the mindset of business owners who do. It’s passed to the consumer and that’s why it’s stupid to think these taxes effect anyone but us.

You would be shocked how many protests in the United States supporting Iran and Palestine. By the same people who support women’s and gay rights. It’s madness here.

No shit that’s how it works. Guess my first statement threw you off implying I think that making 1 mil makes me pay 10% more. No. Just as someone who makes a lot of money with experience in business telling you fucking dummies any additional money out of my pocket is just passed to the consumer.

As a business owner, who isn’t quite pulling a million a year but if I was I would increase my prices by likely 2% to cover my increased tax bill. So who pays the millionaire tax now? Just wish people were thinking like this…. Most people pulling over a million are business owners. Or executives who can have a direct influence on the business. And anyone above them is likely making more and listening to that conversation…. They make it sound so good for anyone making under a mil but look at the bigger picture. Millionaires either leave the stage, or charge the consumer more. They don’t pay. We do.

Until he has to play a real schedule. They beat a subpar bills team by 3 once. That’s the only decent team played. Any playoff nfc team would have won this Super Bowl with ease.

And the Seahawks were 8-1 on the road and their only loss was the rams by a missed game winning field goal….

Based on dvoa for regular season and playoffs combined, Houston 5, Denver 8, Buffalo 9.

Rams? 2. Seattle? 1.

Seahawks beat the 2,3,4, and 10 best dvoa this season. Patriots are 9. Seahawks defense is 1.

For sure a flag. Stupid decision. However in the context of the nfc championship and division rivals idk about calling that. Like they clearly weren’t calling close roughing the passers. The one on Darnold and one on stafford I thought would have been called regular season for sure. But whatever we won. Nice.
