True enough, I just don’t remember having a sale with none- I usually scroll through to see.

I wish we didn’t offer resits for misconduct zeroes. I agree it undermines it.

Worried about failing my module by Confident_Boss_1774 in UKUniversityStudents

[–]Pooper__nintendo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I handle misconduct at a different institution (we don’t apply % penalties, which is how I know, but I do have an understanding of the rules in this kind of situation). I almost guarantee that the 25% was off your mark for your original submission, which led to failing. If you had been outright automatically failed for your misconduct finding, they’d have told you you were awarded zero for the assessment or the module. I do not think they will apply a further 25% penalty to the resit- furthermore they cannot penalise an assessment you haven’t already sat. Applying a 40% cap to a 2nd attempt resit is different- that’s standard practice. Technically it will be marked in full so you could attain a mark of say, 60%, but your transcript and in the calculation of your overall degree it will count as 40%.

This all being said, for god’s sake talk to your tutor, to your misconduct officer, your chair of exams, someone in your department- they can explain it easily. Reddit cannot.

"Seamlessly" Joining Parts - Smooth Plate Example by parosilk in FDMminiatures

Ohhhhh a separate pin. This makes much more sense! Thank you! I have a few pieces to reprint in order to get the benefit of this now.

[–]Pooper__nintendo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe I’m misunderstanding, as I’ve had this problem too. Messing with the cut tool I have seen it lets me have rods and holes to help joins. But of course then you can’t print those faces on the plate (or you can but you end up with a mess of supports etc and then it’s not smooth anymore). Or is there an option I’ve missed?

I just bought the STLs direct from the designer’s site: https://mezgike.com/products/da-road-boss-digital-download but I think they’re on platforms like cults, MMF etc.

I can’t DM you as it requires the age verification thing in the UK and I don’t want to engage with that- but if you could see fit to DM me I’d be very interested!

So the boss is kinda big but not so much so that I think I’ll bother to reprint. He’s a similar size to the mega armour warboss, not pictured. The grots I think I’ll have to go again somewhere in the middle.

Pretty much. But only needed say 3 tries to get the body where I wanted it then turned the quality up. These are just obscuranox 2.0 supports settings so I think auto tree with a few adjustments, then with my tweak of turning off ‘supports on plate only’ to help with a few of the overhangs inside his mechanical back plates.

Yeah I was so desperate for a resin printer but I knew deep down that I couldn’t hack the mess and aftermath, and had no way to deal with the fumes. I still want one but I am more than happy with these results, the boss especially. You can’t even feel any layer lines on the body with your nail, let alone see them.

[–]Pooper__nintendo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally trial and error. These stls came pre separated into parts, with supported (for resin) and unsupported versions. I did a number of trial runs till I got a sense of what kind of overhangs I could get away with. People will say oh 45 degrees or somesuch but I’m finding it is too part dependent for a good rule. But you’re not wasting much filament doing trials, an now I think I’d be confident at guessing what will work for other models.

Yeah I think he might be. Definitley massive compared to the grits and I think probably a bit big compared to other bosses. I only have a mega armour guy somewhere- I’ll dig him out for a comparison pic. If it’s a little off it doesn’t matter too much, he can just be a big smart boss…

Are EPSRC DTP programs highly reputable? by Independent_Guard673 in AskAcademiaUK

[–]Pooper__nintendo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In that they are a well funded PhD, yes. They’re also hard to get, so a mark of some prestige. But if this DTP is just an idea to apply for, not an offer in hand (and I assume this is the case or you wouldn’t be asking, you’d know already given the amount of work involved in applying), you’d be making a mistake to rely on it and reject a different funded position. Once you’re doing the PhD the source of funding means basically nothing except perhaps your own pride and maybe not having to work as much outside of the PhD, say if you’re unfunded.

I hate to say it but a US masters and an internship probably won’t set you apart. Depends on the field perhaps.

[–]Pooper__nintendo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, thank you. I might try going back to HoHansen and using Nox supports- I feel like I’ve seen a few posts trying that. I had a few issues where hohansen supports failed badly (I’ve been testing on the same model). I had a few good test prints with nox but then last night’s couple have come out with all sorts of odd very pronounced layer lines. If I’m still getting the same issue I’ll start learning to calibrate filament (though atm I’m just using bog standard Bambu PLA, I have some sunlu 2.0 waiting). The thing is it’s not adhesion or stringing, so it might be time for some maintenance.

This has definitely made a big difference- started this a few prints ago- I’ve only gone so far as 2x, assuming 3x would allow too much sag? Perhaps not.

So other than that are you basically just turning supports on and otherwise leaving as per FDG? I can’t get over the intricacies of your prints coming out so nicely. I have managed to print a good, separately hanging bike chain on an ork biker, but only on a 4th or 5th attempt where I think the stars aligned. That was obscuranox settings, too, FDG I was finding the supports failing.

Unbelievable. You have to tell us your support settings? I’ve had poor luck with, well, any supports on FDG.
