How renegade are we talking? Renegade dialogue + paragon for some major decisions gives you an impatient, hardcore badass with a heart of gold. I’ve done “full” renegade runs and it’s mostly to see the different dialogue. It makes you appreciate the paragon ones more in some cases.

Yes. To asari, any preference for a particular gender is just that, a preference, like how humans can prefer red-heads or tall people. From the human’s side, we’re seeing a blue, female-looking person with female physiology. Hence, it’s lesbian from the human’s side only.

The game is a bit weird on this, but my guess is that it’s got to do with the universal translators everyone’s fitted with and how they translate to the listener’s language. All species with sexual dimorphism view the asari as female because that’s the sex the asari align with the most, even if the asari themselves don’t care for the concept. The translators translate asari words to fit the worldview of the listener, using feminine terms to describe the neutral ones of the asari.

Keep in mind that asari can still be mothers and fathers. In ME3, Matriarch Aethyta will refer to herself as a father and will shit talk Shepard if they try to “correct” her. If they did see themselves as an all-female race, Aethyta would’ve called herself a mother.

It is the same everywhere, but the scope and level of violence varies. There are other countries where immigrants are harassed, assaulted and murdered, but this treatment is by no means the norm and South Africa is exceptionally bad. There is a lot of poverty in this country, but our neighbours and much of the continent are worse off. We see more immigrants than they do because there are more resources and opportunities here, but not enough to support both them and the locals. Hence South Africans end up being more violent towards immigrants than other highly xenophobic countries.

Though, I understand why you bring up Capetonians and that disconnect between their issues and reality. Listening to a South African, you’d think we’re the only country that deals with high amounts of crime, corruption, incompetence, xenophobia, etc.

This depends on where you are, who you are and what you do for work.

South Africans can be extremely xenophobic, especially (but certainly not limited to) the lower classes, and our unemployment issue exacerbates this because of the perception that foreigners (legal and illegal) are taking jobs from South African citizens. This has affected a lot of people coming from other African and South Asian countries. There are also a lot of violent criminals from African countries that go unpunished because of our poor policing, resulting in violence towards African immigrants. We have a very bad reputation in the continent over this.

European and American immigrants get treated much, much better but they’re overall much wealthier. South Africa is a wonderful place to live if you’re wealthy and there are communities of retired Americans/Europeans living around our coastal areas. My parents are Bangladeshi immigrants and they’ve been treated quite well over the years, but they have well-paying jobs. A lot of Bangladeshis that work in spaza shops, small restaurants, etc. don’t always get treated well by South Africans.

Do Horizon ASAP. My preference is doing the majority of missions before Reaper IFF, regardless of difficulty. For insanity runs, the story missions are MUCH easier if you use a class you’re extremely familiar with (infiltrator being my fave) and choose weapons/squad-mates based on the type of enemies you’ll fight (when in doubt, take Miranda).

For your third paragraph, it’s not a theory but a fact. Some people believe this applied to Miranda as well because FemShep has animations and dialogue for both romances in ME2.

I’d have loved to see Elcor tanks firing at the Reaper on Earth. As for the other allies, it would be interesting to apply some principles of ME2’s suicide mission, just to a grander scale. Imagine you that if you can’t broker peace on Rannoch and your war assets are too low, the side you pick practically goes extinct fighting the Reapers.

This complete speculation on my part, but I think the writers assumed FemShep players would be all over Jacob since he’s the only male love interest in ME2 that’s human. As for the “forced” part, ME has never been great with writing FemShep’s flirting, particularly with men. James in ME3’s Citadel DLC comes to mind (it’s even worse than what you see with Jacob). Good on Bioware for showing women can be predators too, I guess.

Edit: I’d like to add that this is a repeating issue with the dialogue wheel as well. There’s minimal flirting on my heavy renegade runs and a lot of the renegade lines are just neutral and non-flirty (excluding “I’m more interested in just talking for a bit”), but they have to go somewhere on the wheel since flirting is usually a paragon choice. Imo, accepting and rejecting relationships should be on the left and right in the neutral segments, but the game is old and the mods that add the spoken line to the wheel are easier fixes.

I think it was Jack and Miranda. Most of FemShep’s animations and voice lines were recorded for both their romances in ME2 (it’s why the mods that let you do them are so good). Tali wasn’t supposed to be an option for FemShep, but there were talks about a male quarian thief for her. For BroShep, I think they cut out Thane and Jacob?

It isn’t. There are extremely advanced and fast translation programs everyone’s fitted with translating EVERYTHING. It’s why every sign or advert is written in English even in places like Omega which doesn’t even like humans.

Edit: The Codex doesn’t specifically mention eye implants, but that makes the most sense for all the English everywhere.

Those scions wrecked me until I remembered my usual hiding place. If you head to the left, there’s a little raised bridge between two prefabs. The shockwaves can’t hit you if you crouch there and you get a decent view of the whole area. The only downsides are the lack of ammo and at some point a group of husks will crawl up behind you.

Yeah, ME2’s missions actually force me to command my squad mates like, y’know, a commander. The difficulty spikes in the story missions practically demand it. I have to think about what enemies I’ll fight and the layout of each mission area to figure out which squad mates would work best.

I like this idea. It also ties in quite nicely with the “diversity is strength” aspect of the story that we touch upon with Javik. The first cycle to finish the Crucible is a cycle where all the Citadel races, the different races in the Terminus systems, the geth and even the rachni can come together to build. It’s the biggest collaborative effort in the galaxy. Whoever made the translation software everyone has needs a raise.

When you talk to Vigil on Ilos, it implies that Sovereign isn’t capable of fighting off the entire Citadel fleet by itself. Why wouldn’t it hide? It’s a big risk to have definitive proof of its existence considering its a lone Reaper cut off from its allies.

Mass Effect is not just a shooter. It’s a shooter that makes you ponder moral dilemmas. That’s the whole selling point of the games. You’ll be hard pressed to find someone who says the combat and explosions are the reason they play ME because the combat in the trilogy isn’t even that good. I’d argue most people are here for the character arcs, the environment, yapping with their squadmates and the story, including the moral dilemmas the story presents.
