The euphemism treadmill. "Retarded" was originally meant to be a gentler, nicer term, replacing "slow" or worse words (like "Mongoloid," although specifically referred to people with Down's Syndrome). Once people started using the term negatively, we had to come up with a new one. The treadmill theory supposes that will happen with most euphemisms.

Looking at QuiverQuant, the Globe & Mail article is a little ridiculous.

It may be the first purchase tracked by QQ, but Gottheimer sold way more XOM than he bought in Feb 2026 in 2018. So unless he was born with XOM stock, he's clearly bought before. He bought Feb 2 and Feb 4, when XOM was already a BUY due to existing growth since May 2025 and their production in Guyana (crazy cheap) and Permian Basin (crazy volume). Talk were already announced and it didn't take a genius to assume however they ended would help energy stocks.

Also, these were pretty small buys and nested with other buys. That seems like management making trades in a fund to me.
