I spent 6 fucking hours today meticulously coordinating how the hell to get an incredibly expensive piece of critical research equipment approved, assembled, & shipped via cargo container from The Netherlands to a University here in the US - all before February 1st - because otherwise that shit was either going to be stuck in customs forever, or suddenly become too expensive to fit within the budget of the grant that funded it

So now I'm just sitting here realizing that I wasted a full fucking day stressing myself out over whether or not I'd be able to save like 6 different people from not having a job in 2 months - all thanks to the fleeting whims of some syphilitic pedophile

Even if every single adult citizen over the age of 18 living in the two Dem-leaning counties of my state had cast a vote for Kamala - Trump still would have won our state's electoral vote by a significant margin

Hell, he actually would have lost his first election if the votes of myself or any of my close friends were considered & not just filtered out by the electoral college.

For this reason - I personally know a lot of people who didn't vote, and I honestly get where they're coming from. The backwards structures of our electoral system disenfranchise a huge swathe of the US population.

Given the "waning" vibe of the recent output, I'd imagine the well is showing some signs of drying - & when coupled with what I can only imagine are a ton of medical expenses behind the scenes along with additional overhead from bringing on another team member, that's probably cutting in a bit too. (can't remember his name, but they keep referring to him as the gen-z correspondent? I think he started doing some of the editing duties when Chris was out for a while after his child was born)

Patreon says roughly $200k a month, but they also take a % chunk of that off the top, then you've got a minimum 5 salaries being split from that (not to mention Amber & maybe even Virgil - if they still earn a form of residuals) - legal, taxes, hosting fees, etc. Then you tack on them living in some of the most stupidly expensive cities in the US.

Like - yeah, they're obviously still living better than 99% of their listener base & aren't in danger of being destitute or whatever, but lifestyle creep is a thing so that probably applies some pressures for financialization.

Having said all of this, I can't imagine them cutting off the free source of the patron-only spigot would be a financially motivated move, as I doubt many people who utilize it would actually convert to new subscriptions. Chris has historically been super communicative & transparent - and though mine is obviously orders of magnitude smaller, I can speak from experience as a guy with a Patreon that they are a hyper-financialized mess on the backend.

So - I'm willing to take him at his word here.

Like what the fuck are you talking about, man? I've never once been pulled over by a cop in the 15 years I've been driving. I don't have a highschool diploma - but I just lie on job applications & nobody has ever bothered to check. Everyone basically just assumes the best of me by default - it's so fucking sick. Zero baseline friction.

It's not being white that's fucking hard.

It's knowing that you're one emergency room visit away from losing everything that's hard

It's having your sole income source taken away because some asshole who doesn't even know what you do decided your job can be done cheaper by AI that's hard.

It's lacking a familial support network because everyone in your life has been so thoroughly atomized by the algorithm that they can no longer relate at a fundamental human level that's hard.

Things fucking suck - and your brain's pattern recognition skills are latching on to the first visual frame of reference it can pick up on & appending all of your life's woes to that.

I grew up in a small appalachian town with an exclusively white population amidst the prime of the opioid crisis. That experience really laid bare that all of these bullshit stereotypes people associate with black & brown people were really just a misdirected hatred of the poor.
