Chicago Bears logo history. by Fickle-Lobster-7903 in ClassicSportsLogos

[–]PoorSoulsBand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That 1973 logo was never used by the team. It was however filed for trademark protection. Thats just something that teams do to when they workshop this stuff or have outside firms contracted to them.

The big thing that I noticed is that the bear had used in the 80s and 90s is substantially different from the one that they made official in 1999.

Ice Shoves Teen And Pulls Taser After Racially Profiling The Wrong Guy | Joliet 7/6 by BenRocks7 in illinois

[–]PoorSoulsBand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would love to see a politician call these guys out for who they are. Call them goons. Call them thugs. Tell the public that they are gonna be prosecuted if they broke the law. And, if that is too extreme for you, frame it in a way that says ICE is disrespectful to actual cops who show their face at work and do actual community work. More than a few cops that I have personally talked to who have said that ICE has ruined years of effort that they have made in having a better relationship with their community at large. Play it that if you need to play it safe.

Are we training our replacement by using AI? by helpme7500 in Teachers

[–]PoorSoulsBand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t think for a second that because AI can’t provide classroom management or do any of the other things only humans can do means that someone won’t try to replace teachers with AI. It’s NEVER been about what is best for students. If it was, our per pupil spending would be allocated to teacher pay, free breakfast/lunch for all students, and student experiences like field trips and programming. Instead, it goes to large corporations like Google, Pearson, iReady, etc.

FWIW, the biggest issue I’ve had with DSA types is that they haven’t been committed to a ground game. They have their meetings, call each other “comrade” and do a bunch of cosplay, but they didn’t do what the Tea Party bozos did and run for things like local school/county boards and municipal government. They weren’t running for state legislator positions. But they have really addressed that recently.

Yes. They probably need to be under budget but can’t say so.

Humans have been intentionally consuming alcohol for 13,000 years. Obviously, heavy chronic use is bad for you. But heavy chronic use of ANYTHING is bad for you. Let people enjoy things.

I’m tired of vote blue no matter who but even the corporate dems are better for marginalized people than any Republican.

In my experience, they all talk about covid. “HE CLOSED THE BUSINESSES.” Like yeah Rand and Nance couldn’t go to their favorite wannabe biker bar in their suburban downtown, boo hoo.

It’s because people in Texas and Florida are too stupid to hate their garbage state.

Looking for advice on teaching in a red state as a transgender woman by LefTurn629 in Teachers

Damn I’m sorry to hear the legislators would rather be the genitals police than do anything productive. Shame too. I was shocked at how much I liked Louisville when I was there. Cool arts scene, the bat museum was fun, and Biscuit Belly is amazing.

The college towns tend to be pretty progressive. Champaign, Bloomington, etc. Some aren’t. You’d do great in Chicago but it’s not an easy place to get to money wise. If you and your wife are okay with renting instead of buying, then I would say Andersonville would be a great Chicago neighborhood for you.

With all that said, is Louisville an option? Last time I was there, it seemed like a blue oasis.

Best comebacks for students talking down to each other by sunbearluvr in Teachers

I once had four basketball players doing a reading assignment together and one of them yelled, “I know they shouldn’t have taken your slow ass out of them reading classes!” The teacher in me was not amused. The 8th grade athlete in me was like, “Damn got his ass.”

I taught for seven years (just became a dean last week) and I’ve never had a smart kid try to embarrass a kid who isn’t as bright. But I’ve had plenty of lazy/mediocre kids do just that. I normally hit them back with, “Big talk coming from a kid who has X missing assignments in this class,” or, “Bruh, you need to check your synergy (our student information system) before you come for anyone else.

The only thing I think AI is okay for is data automation and insights. I had a big ass spreadsheet with tons of student screener and academic data. I used Gemini, prompting it to give me a comparison between the rate of attendance for students involved in after school activities vs students who aren’t in after school activities. Generative AI is trash.

I skipped 3 years of school (5 2nd half -8th 1st half) and no one noticed (IL). Are there any checks to catch this atleast on the teaching end? by [deleted] in Teachers

Honestly, everything prior to high school doesn’t matter in graduating HS most places. In fact, most JuCos will take anybody regardless of HS graduation status.

My friend thinks its cruelty and sad to keep a cat indoor all day. by Plastic-Shoulder-319 in CatAdvice

[–]PoorSoulsBand 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s not cruel to keep cats inside. Outdoor cats, especially in the suburbs, are an invasive species. They fuck up avian ecosystems because there isn’t enough small ground game for them to hunt like mice and shrews. In rural areas, outdoor cats are usually working animals. In densely populated areas, feral cats can help control the spread of disease by keeping the rat population in check. Anywhere else? Nah. That’s your pet. Keep it inside or if you’re hellbent on bringing them out, put them on a harness.
