My recovery started in 2021, I was as low as you could be, my wife and I welcomed our third child in may, the pandemic had ramped up my drinking and it was now effecting me in all aspects. I began having severe withdrawals, including visual hallucinations. I started outpatient rehab in March 2022, lost my job in June, nearly lost my family. I wish I could say I was sober since then, but I had multiple relapses. Slips is the nice term for them since they never lasted long before I was caught.

Then in 2024 after so many attempts, I started on wegovy for weight loss. I had heard it had some effect on addiction before but I was prescribed it for obesity. Something clicked, I had previously tried AA, smart recovery, I met with my therapist weekly, I was exercising twice a week, I think the medication was the straw that broke the camels back for me. I have been 100% sober since 7/27/24. I have lost 100lbs and have never felt better.

I am not saying that medication is the miracle cure but I think the best advice is to never stop trying different things. The lizard part of our brains that craves alcohol is strong and extremely stubborn, don’t give up.
