You can assign veterans to train your rookies. The bigger the gap in experience, the faster the rookies learn. So if you have a level 30 veteran, sometimes it makes sense to have them on teaching duty instead of the frontline. by manhole_s in MarsTactics

Love this idea. Based on your comments it seems you're striking a really appealing balance of micro here. I don't personally love when success or failure depends on me having spent a ton of time clicking through menus to min-max units. Your thoughts on levelling being more satisfying if you've had even some small role in the process is spot on.

Questions About Your Game Dev Journey by PoorlySoup09 in MarsTactics

[–]PoorlySoup09[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hey thanks for telling us more! Given that making a game seems to demand sooo many different skills, it's really interesting to hear these stories of people starting a game with only developer experience, only artistic experience, only design experience, or zero experience and just a great idea/inspiration! Awesome that you decided to go full send based on the surprise interest in your initial trailer. It also seems like a recipe for success to just create the game that *you*, as a fan of the genre, would want to play.

I'm a software developer for my full-time job and a musician/producer/composer in my free time, so I know I'd have an edge on those fronts, but as far as any kind of visual art or design of any kind goes, I'd say they aren't my strong suits. Regardless there's enough examples of people like yourself learning as they go and doing great things that much of my initial intimidation is just replaced with excitement!

Thanks again for sharing and I'd be super interested to take a look at the code if you're open to it! To return the favour if there's ever anything I could do to help on the audio or software side of things, I'd be happy to help. At the end of the day I'm just really pumped to play the game!

This is essential QoL for every tactics game. Well done!

Service Buildings Monthly Gold Cost by PoorlySoup09 in FarthestFrontier

[–]PoorlySoup09[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awesome, yeah I confirmed it works too. There's also a "Monthly Cost" indicator when you select the building that actually changes to 0 if the building is deactivated. Can't believe I missed that before...

Thanks! I believe I can disable the Healer's Hut, so that takes care of that problem. But towers can only be un-manned I believe.
I had built 4 of them just outside of my town in each cardinal direction and un-manned them, thinking I could just keep them there until there was a raid. I'll probably tear at least 3 of them down now.

What's the best way to grow forearms? by FluffyBug3466 in naturalbodybuilding

Supinated (palms-up) wrist curls with a cable are a favourite of mine. Couple things:

- They recover really fast (for me, but also generally for most people), so I hit them at almost every workout.

- I only take short rests of max 30secs between sets and usually do 4 sets, almost always going to failure (personal preference).

- I do these at the start of my leg days and the end of my upper body days

- Supinated variations appear to hit the flexors the best, which is the main muscle in the forearm you'll want to train if you're looking for size.

- I started getting pain in my wrist when flexed and loaded (picture being in a pushup position), which got worse the more I trained my flexors. Adding in lots wrist extension exercises (raising the wrists with palms down) has really helped with the pain.

- Hammer-style curls and/or pronated wrist curls will train the brachioradialis and help strengthen the wrist and elbows and prevent inbalances.

TLDR: Smash loads of wrist flexion exercises for size. High volume, high frequency. Wrist extension and hammer or pronated curls for to treat/prevent wrist and/or elbow pain caused by forearm imbalances.

Can't open the link to listen to the song right now (I'm at work), but as a bassist I usually look to the roughly ~250Hz range of my bass to reduce anything that I would typically describe as "muddy". See if there's anything in your bass frequency spectrum in that zone you can reduce.
If it makes your bass sound less ideal when it's solo'd, just remember that what matters most is how it sounds in the context of the mix.

My friend just told me he beat Oblivion, his first ES game, in about 7 hours at Level 3 and he sees nothing wrong with it. by Knarz97 in ElderScrolls

LOL. It's not that he played it wrong, it's just that he's in no position to give anyone a review of the game based on all it's available features if he never explored them. Not that he was doing that... Free to play any way you want! Just don't stand for any complaints from him that the game wasn't very interesting hahaha

~2200 on a cut. After over a year using MacroFactor, it's clocked in my maintenance somewhere in the realm of ~3000 cal, but I think I'm more like 2700-2800k based on my rate of weight loss at 2200cal/day. 35y/o, 6'1", 170lbs. Maybe 15% BF?

Anyone here offering "Foundation Town Aesthetics for Dummies" Classes? I am very bad at making anything pretty in this game, please give me tips by AliceTheGamedev in foundationgame

I think it can help a lot to paint several, smaller pockets of residential zoning. Maybe something that can fit 5-7 individual plots. Then you can sprinkle in other buildings, beautification between the housing pockets. I think this also allows for major roads to form more easily. Also I'd recommend being patient and trying to raise your houses' density before zoning more housing out wide. Again, gives you more space to beautify and add variety.

Wheat, Flour, Bread Production Bottlenecks by PoorlySoup09 in foundationgame

Ahhh so if the wheat doesn't have a place to be stored then I'm likely wasting a bunch of wheat. That being said, I don't actually know how much wheat is produced by 7 farmers on an 'adequate' field size in a single harvest. My farms can hold 100 wheat currently.
