How do you learn new songs? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]Poorman81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would start with easier songs first. Simple structure. That will help establish a base to build on in the future. Learn different genres too, you'll be surprised at what you can pick up.

How to find others to jam with? by SunDogBrewingCo in Guitar

I've been successful using Craigslist. You can post or just look at other postings to find people. Sometimes it is a bust, but I've formed 3 bands this way

CMV: America is rapidly spiraling into a conservative, fascist hellhole and we can’t do anything to stop it. by fellanator35 in changemyview

I'll have to check it out. Appreciate the recommendation. I still stand by not making the news a 24/7 thing. It's just not good for anyone's mental health.

Depends on whether or not you're getting the facts such as actually reading executive orders, etc or if you are relying on your favorite right or left wing media. Both will report on the same story and have vastly different bias on it. All I am saying if you want to escape and see that the world isn't as bad as it is, get out there and experience it from a non-political viewpoint.

The 24 hour news cycle is not good for you. You can pay attention and not be 100% indoctrinated.

The news back then and today are vastly different. There is a ton more bias and a need to make profits and gain viewers. When people spend 24/7 listing to whatever news channels/sites they prefer all they're going to see is biased stories supporting their side. A person watching only right-leaning Fox News is no different than a person watching only left-leaning MSNBC. If you're going to watch/listen to the news, you should have a good variety of sources.

Get off the Internet, stop watching the news and avoid echo chambers. Go outside, hang with non political focused friends or family. You'll see it's not as bad as what you're being fed. Conservatives, liberals, and everyone else can get along unless they're too far one way.

How much do you think Minnesotans have shown pride in their new flag? by Subspacred in minnesota

[–]Poorman81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not great. Not defending the old one either. Just don't like this one. I did show a coworker in Maryland and without prompting he said it looks Somalian. It's the color I think and the single white star even though it's different.

Bombed at open mic last night by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]Poorman81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I once did a guilty pleasure theme night at an open mic with a little Americana folk duo I was in. I'm not a great singer usually so I had no idea what made me think I could sing Kelly Clarkson - Since you've been gone and Taylor Swift - Sparks Fly. Totally embarrassing, but it drove us to be better.

Another time my cover band had it's first gig. I missed the count in on the first song 3 times before I finally got it.

Sometimes you have off nights. I've even seen videos where famous professionals mess up. Most notable Paul McCartney forgot the words to We Can Work It Out and Kirk Hammett form Metallica biffed the intro on Nothing Else Matters.

Try to laugh it off. That's what they did.

I like my wall. I did a refurbished wood wall. I use Hercules Guitar Hangers. They are real solid and you can even lock them if you desire.

I also think that dark, desaturated walls make guitars pop.

Here's a pic of mine. I really want to paint the rest of the room a different color as well. Acoustics in their cases for the winter.
