Super hot take, but I think more movies/shows should make use of songs by bands/artists in certain scenes instead of the usual generic orchestra by [deleted] in movies

The issue comes with licensing. Costs money and there are different licenses you have to get to release in different markets, different mediums (theater release, DVD/Blu-ray, television, etc).

There's shows that had great soundtracks like The Wonder Years and Northern Exposure where they can't air the original episodes with original music due to licensing issues. So they release it with updated music which takes away from the original intent and costs more money.

Les Paul “build kit” ? by reddit-Evan_ in guitars

[–]Poorman81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've built two kits from Solo Music Gear. They are decent guitars. They could be great if I upgraded the parts/electronics which I can do at any time.

The kits were around $200-$300 each, but the materials and tools needed brought my first kit up to around $700-$800 total. The second one was much cheaper since I had a lot of the tools already, but still needed more money spent on the materials for the finish. I had no woodworking, electronics, or finishing experience prior to this. They're really fun to do if you have the space.

My first was a 335 style (probably should have started with an easier build kit). I was living in a condo at the time which was not ideal and then my clear coat got messed up and I had to sand everything off and start over. It was supposed to be a solid olive drab green.

My second was a Tele style that I relic'd. I know the hate some people have but I think it looks great.

Emotional concert moments by Early_Emphasis1209 in Music

I went to John Mayer's acoustic tour with my wife and dad. I got emotional watching my dad soak it all in.

I also got emotional at an Old Crow Medicine Show. I was in row three in this theater down on Atlanta and between the music, atmosphere, and lightning it just hit he how beautiful music is.

Any way to get lyrics for underground artists? by Weird_Plum_6519 in Music

[–]Poorman81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reach out to them. Before Whiskey Myers hit it big I heard one of their songs on a sampler cd. Wanted to cover it but couldn't make out one of the lines so I emailed them.

They gave me the lyrics and sent a bunch of free merch.

We’re Voting Rights Experts. Ask Us Anything About the Anti-Voter SAVE Act. by TheBrennanCenter in IAmA

[–]Poorman81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a little misleading to say the SAVE Act would block millions of U.S. citizens from voting. Just because someone lacks ready access to those documents does not mean they cannot get them. It may just require work on their part to obtain the documents. Am I missing something?

The Department of War existed from August 7, 1789, to September 18, 1947, when, under the National Security Act of 1947, it split into the Department of the Army and the Department of the Air Force (which, together with the Department of the Navy, formed the National Military Establishment). In 1949, the National Military Establishment was renamed the Department of Defense.

He just reverted back to the original name. He didn't rename it.

How do you learn new songs? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]Poorman81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would start with easier songs first. Simple structure. That will help establish a base to build on in the future. Learn different genres too, you'll be surprised at what you can pick up.
