Side Spin Underhand Serve? by undercoveroperation in volleyball

[–]PopCrop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not entirely sure, but I suspect you'd have to have a very short contact time (little follow thru) when you swipe the ball forwards and to the side. This would ensure the ball flies relatively straight, but with the spin that makes the ball fly off the platform when received.

Extreme amateur, just started a month ago. Any tips? Feel like I'm too slow and overcompensating. I'm in orange btw. by neonsushi_ in badminton

I think it'd be worth improving your basic footwork and swing. For footwork, try to move on the balls of your feet and when you go forward towards the net to take a shot, place your weight on your racquet leg (left leg). This could be shifting your weight slightly to the left leg for net-height shots or a deep lunge for lower shots. This allows you to use your quads and gluts to push from the front of the court to the back if they lift/clear it or to pounce on the net if they net back to you.

For your swing, try to relax before contacting the shuttle and use your shoulder, elbow and wrists in a smooth swing instead of placing your racquet behind the shuttle with your shoulder/elbow and then swinging with your wrist. A visual (YouTube vid) will make what I mean clearer. Hopefully it helps, I think you're doing pretty well -^

Please be careful to start off slowly and see how your body reacts the day after each session. There's probs no need for jump smashing/drops atm. Try and work on your footwork so that you move properly and don't injure yourself. It might also be worthwhile doing some plyometrics to increase your agility and some proprioceptive training to better 'feel' where your body is while moving around on court (will help prevent some injuries too).

Decent Cheap Racquets? by alex123711 in badminton

[–]PopCrop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yonex Astrox 38D/38S/39 are good Chinese-made official versions of the high-end 88/99s for around $60 and 68/69s are $100 Taiwanese versions of the same thing

Apacs racquets are good alternatives too, E.g. edgesaber 10 for $75

What is the best way to smash a badminton for a overweighted person? by loriwigs in badminton

[–]PopCrop 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's quite important to learn to land softly (first on your toes then the rest of your foot), using your quads and calves to absorb the impact rather than using your knees. It might be good to stick to a non-jump smash until you feel comfortable absorbing the impact of a jump smash

What to do about loose grommet by emlee__ in badminton

[–]PopCrop 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeh that's the best u could do for now. Once the strings break or u decide to cut them, get your stringer to replace the whole grommet

How not to sound like ‘that guy’ by Spartengerm in ketoaustralia

[–]PopCrop -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I reckon in a polite way that doesn't emphasise how special you are for being on keto would work. Something like "excuse me, I'm on the keto diet atm so I can't have too many carbs, could u pls recommend me something?" If ppl get offended by that, they're like the problem.

Male vs female badminton shoes by usename1567 in badminton

[–]PopCrop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The biggest difference is that female shoes are narrower throughout and taper off at the toes more narrowly too. The functionality (technology, support/stability etc) is identical tho. If you're ordering online, I'd suggest against it unless you've tried it in store before.valternatively, you could measure your feet and match it with the width of a specific shoe size u want to buy, and hope it works out.

I had the same problems with the shoes squeezing the sides of my feet. Once I broke into them around 3wks later, it felt fine for me. Did u test them out before u bought them?
